Dawn of early access for Battlefield 6 has arrived, causing quite a scramble for gaming buffs across the globe to grab one of the coveted early access codes, as by then the accesses will be opened to clients. So this will start at 1 am PT/4 am ET on the 7th of August, and then by August 9 come the open beta. With queues filling really fast and then codes have become less than a quiet lobby, excitement and chaos can truly be made real.
Anyway, how does one get in? Going into early access requires a code, so gamers have been putting on their detective hats and gathering in attempts to butter somebody in order to get one. Some are watching Twitch streams for drops (somebody even said “30 minutes on Twitch feels like 3 hours, I hate it 😂”). Others then dive into social media, only to find almost all of the code giveaways are either fake or have already been claimed. “Good luck finding any legit code giveaways. Most of them have been giveaway to friends, and they slap up invalid codes to keep the viewership high,” one player tweeted. Oof.
Next is the timing of it. 1 am PT/4 am ET is… just about not ideal for anybody. Some have alarms set (“Got my alarm set for 630 am. I ain’t getting up at 4am lmao”), while others are leaving sleep to second priority. “Guess I’ll sleep until then 🤣,” joked one player, and really? Mood. Another had to grin said, “Damn, I thought it was at 4pm EST. I guess I’m working from home tomorrow 😅.” Priorities, right?
Those outside the U.S. aren’t really having it much better with their time zone math. One Brazilian player asked, “@charlieINTEL @grok qual o horario de brasilia nesse carai?” (which translates into: “What’s the time in Brazil for this thing?”). Luckily, yet another player gave the answer, “O Early Access da beta de Battlefield 6 começa às 5h da manhã no horário de Brasília.” (Translation: The early access beta begins at 5am for all those in Brazil). Brutal, but at least the Brazilians won’t be really hard-pressed to find the time to suffer.
And then we’ve got the queue. Ohhhh, the queue. Some players have already encountered wait times in the tens of thousands. A screenshot reportedly had 40k players before, “Servers already full ✌️,” another player tweeted laughingly, and another queried, “So what happens when this number goes down to 0? 😂 Will it just kick me off 😂 im on 16K now.” Honestly, who knows? Battlefield launches are always a big mess, but that’s part of the fun.
PC players have one more nit to pick: Some people actually need to enable Secure Boot just to play. “Wish me luck I have to turn in secure boot and play on PC,” one player said in despair. Then, there are the EA account issues. “My PS is linked but my EA account is all messed up with old emails… I’ll figure it out,” said another in the sort of upbeat voice one would hope to hear while defusing a bomb.
But nonetheless, the intensity stays on. Players are debating whether the gunplay feels right (“Hope aiming don’t feel weird”); they joked about crash servers; they compared it to other shooters; and some threw playful shade at Call of Duty: “The BF servers are already full because people aren’t advertising cod properly.” Spicy.
What’s the verdict? Those with early access can prepare themselves for a late (or early) night of long queues and probable technical issues. Oh, and for the rest of your lives, pace yourselves with joining everybody’s streams when the open beta launches on August 9. Still chasing that code? Well… here goes: Good luck, you’re going to need it.
And that genuinely spells another chaotic, messy, entirely unmissable Battlefield 6 beta. See you in the field or at least on the queue.
