First off, the first rumor about the marketing plan for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has already seen a big, strange, somewhat puzzling choice that is, in fact, a choice. This strange and huge decision has already started to make the online gamers pull their hair out in frustration. The first rumor came from one of those usual Marvel rumor accounts and it said that the first trailers for the movie will be released in an unusual manner, to be precise there will be four trailers and each will deal with a different aspect.
The claim according to the tweet goes like this: The first trailer is related to Steve Rogers, the human being behind Captain America. After that, the second trailer will feature Thor. The third one? It is now the turn of Doctor Doom, the main villain. And then finally, the biggest one of the four trailers is centered on the entire movie. It sounds like a marketing strategy that came out of an over-caffeinated board meeting and the reaction of gamers and fans, pardon me, players, has been a delightful blend of excitement, confusion, and even irritation.
What is the biggest problem? First of all, it seems that Marvel is banking a lot on the past. Steve Rogers? Thor? These are the main characters who were in the forefront of the Infinity Saga. And of course, everyone loves Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, but the Multiverse Saga has introduced a whole new set of characters along with it. Where are they? One gamer, user @uruwick1414, put it very clearly: “Focus on new characters for godsake. Use avengers movie to set new characters.” Very reasonable! This film is going to be the conclusion of one chapter and the start of another, but the marketing appears to be stuck in 2019.
Next is the whole Doctor Doom situation. Only giving him a trailer is an impressive move—after all, he is the main villain. But as @Corcley mentioned, it is a little funny: “Oh yes, Doom’s well-known enemies….Thor and Captain America?” It does seem quite random. The conversation in the replies got really heated, with some gamers calling it total “nostalgia bait” because, and let’s be honest, phases 4 and 5 have not been the same for a lot of people. One of the users, @thepersona98, said that this is just Marvel going back to what is good and that: “They are going back to what works, what people want, and what makes them money. It’s that simple.”
Not everyone, however, is on board with the plan or the rumor itself. @honestnitis called everyone to just cease, saying, “Will wait for the Day when whole things will be proved just another stupid rumor.. Because this thing makes no sense.” And guess what? They might be right. The indicators are really scarce, and the source article allegedly contained more disclaimers than details. @GearshiftMike only wants the real thing, tweeting, “JFC just release a damn trailer.” The vibe is rather impatient, man.
The strangest thing about the whole leak is its format. Four trailers? Who has such an attention span in this day and age? @CeceBelAir perfectly portrayed the weariness: “soooooooo the real trailer is the 4th one??? 🥱😒” It has the feel of a “slowly revealing” plan in which they are trying to arouse audience enthusiasm, however, this plan may be in the opposite direction of the crowd. And where do the other teams stand? @Teenage_Witch__ suggested that it should be “one for each team though… and then a fifth one for Doom,” which seems pretty realistic if you’re trying to showcase a grand crossover event.
Then again, the exclusions are there. Oh my God, the comments are practically a roster of character shortcomings. @ZNyongtoryy screamed: “No Loki, no X-MEN, no Fantastic four, no Avengers, no Thunderbolts, so many good characters left with Steve Rogers again, change this garbage immediately.” Many players share the same sentiment. If this is a grand finale, wouldn’t it be the one that gathers all the protagonists we have followed? @Runaway_Wiccan gives a key point, arguing that bringing Cap and Thor front and center ignores those who have actually been carrying the load in the saga: “Because none of these characters except Thor have been actual characters in the saga this movie is concluding.”
Nevertheless, it is not all super bad and gloomy—pun intended. Some game players are perfectly fine with it. @drjohnshen made a joke “2011 me is returning” with a hype GIF, and @Ranvijayy_ called it “Legendary.” For every person who is disappointed by the inclusion of Steve Rogers, there is another one who just can’t wait to see the shield again.
