Getting into the action with Street Fighter 6, devouring the whole thing in one go, creating magic in the Minecraft world, or just hanging around with the adorable bunch of Animal Crossing, all these sound great when you can. I’m not sure though if this would take me away from my real-world coziness and hot chocolate, haha!
The ASUS ROG tweet indicated the holiday mood that every PC gamer in the world would want to have. Christmas season at last is here… It’s time for the setup at least. The first toy they shared was the OLED display. But then the million-dollar question appeared: What game would you plan to play during Christmas?
Wow, that would be like asking for the best pizza topping. You would get a dozen replies and all would be somehow correct. But the responses to that question were not just answers, they almost created the ultimate Christmas gaming playlist, not to mention they often asked for free monitors too.
So first things first, the ambience was far from loud. It was the warm and inviting atmosphere that the players were looking for and the first to comment, Robin, perfectly summed it up: “Cozy single-player games on a fresh OLED just hit different—perfect excuse to finally get lost in a long RPG over the break.” Getting cozy and having a hot drink as a companion while being free of responsibilities and having only one world to get lost in is the vibe. Another user, ChrisCGN, suggested Divinity: Original Sin II as a game with fantastic music, slow pace, and good story that one might use as a perfect time killer “for a lazy December afternoon”.
Thereafter, there were those who considered super black and endless contrast as EYE CANDY and went directly there. Cyberpunk 2077 was mentioned a few times and SuperNova exclaimed that it would be so beautiful on that monitor while HRBomber made a joke about doing a 3rd playthrough. No worries, Night City’s neon on an OLED? Just picture it as a lifetime desktop background. The mention of Stellar Blade also received a lot of applause as VeeGeeA stated that during Christmas, the game would be actually leveling you in terms of fidelity, story, and soundtrack. And experiencing that bliss would be like paradise on earth.
Things got wild as far as what the community wants. It is as if everyone just saw the sparkling ASUS monitor and their own computer setup looked ugly in comparison. Outchosen exclaimed, “I need an upgrade bad,” while Macadocious plain and simple confessed, “I wish for an upgrade.” Johmpn was there crying, “C’mon lemme have one of these 🙁 Merry Christmas.” and Nilanjan Pandit flat out asked, “Can you give me a upgrade please” with a prayer emoji. The struggle is real, folks. We have all been there, scrolling through product tweets when we have no money.
Game recommendations were wide-ranging which is the best part of it all. Do you need a warm and soothing atmosphere? Jim said Half Life 2. RoninSamurai47 chose Red dead redemption. KïDD said you Can’t go wrong with BioShock collection. Classic stuff!
Are you in the mood for something hot? Jacob644735 put forward spiderman miles morales. Karaninja casts his vote for Street Fighter 6. Mercuriel is anticipating Path of Exile 2 with its new update. And then the mysterious ones come in. mrpigeonjr1 and john biloute both wrote Clair Obscur Expedition 33. gotta google that, sounds intriguing.
And of course, there are always the games that have never been released but are still hyped forever. NozzleClog3D is wishing for that OLED for my Arc Raiders, Silksong goodness. We feel your pain, buddy. We are all waiting with you.
Some just wished to immerse themselves in the holiday atmosphere. Esmeralda proposed playing Animal Crossing in the wintertime. sourGummiees considered it making a Christmas-themed house/mall/park in Minecraft. That is some very heartwarming content right there.
I guess it is quite paradoxical that a single tweet about a monitor upgrade can spark such a large community discussion around gaming moods. This is the reason why for many people, the game and the hardware are very much alike in providing the same experience. A good display not only makes a good game feel it… but also offers the chance to attain a qualitative level of More immersive. More wow.
Jordy even had a more technical question in the midst of the chaos: “We need more DisplayPort 2.1.” There’s always that one person who keeps it real with the specs, you love to see it.
So what’s the moral of ASUS ROG’s little holiday tease? Gamers are forever on the lookout for the perfect PlayStation experience or an exciting new Xbox title to play.
