On X, PlayStation shared a picture taken in the infamous autumn from AC Shadows with a caption, “Press L2 to Observe 🍂🍃”. Oh, the internet surely had THOUGHTS. Replies are chaotic with hype, hate, and confusion on the game forum, the best description of a discourse in 2024.

Jason Berry (@dirtyjpb69) was one of the earliest to pop in: “What game is this?” Dude, HOW ARE YOU ON GAMING TWITTER? Ryan GoFett2490 comes with a hero’s response: “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” sharing the link to the official trailer. This guy has apparently been living under a digital rock.

Of course, the haters flooded in. Briggy (@___Briggy) labeled it “woke crap” and went on to make predictions like “will flop harder than Dragon Age Dreadwolf” (which…ouch?). Derapaje (@derapaje) called it simply “woke crap game” and left it at that. All right, cool critique bro, very insightful!

Not all of them are haters, though! Some are even…excited?? Stardust (@Stardust11M31) wrote, “Beautiful!🤩” PromptlyAI said, “Easy to get lost in the beauty.” At least Ubisoft is getting some credit for the graphics!

The juicy stuff is in gameplay discussions, though. Brock Van Wagoner EX (@BrockVWoodsy) lambasted the map system, to which Ryan replied, “I love exploring. Why explore if the map tells you everything?”. And honestly, can’t really fault that opinion. Samantha J. Foster (@sjfostersound) mentioned this is the first AC with prone mechanics, which…wow, really? How many games did it take them?

“For PS+” was PS+ land, turnt🌑ff (@turnt0ff)- reasonable mood. Given Ubisoft’s prior offerings, that does seem the smart monetary move. Briggy upped the ante by saying it would be “shit” but would drop on PS Extra within half a year- someone is salty huh?

The weirdest, though? Jadedphuck (@Jadedphuckit) making a cracked joke about “missing a black dude” from the scenery shot. Like what even was that comment?? Ryan countered quippy fast: “Scared of them huh” which is the same energy.

This Tweet demonstrates how divided the AC fanbase is at this very moment. Some are swearing it’s beautiful, while the others swear it will crash. Some cannot wait for this release, while others will wait for it to get on a subscription. A few seem not to know who goes to which game.

Either way, Shadows is fun in that it will engage discourse in some very wild ways. Whether you’re there for the shameless issues in feudal Japan or just here to see what madness ensues, grab your popcorn; it’s going to be a messy launch season.
