Ubisoft has revealed a major surprise for Nintendo enthusiasts – Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on 2nd December. The game’s official Twitter page broke the news that through the hybrid handheld console of next generation Nintendo, players would be able to live through the times of Japan with the protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. This confirmation establishes the game as one of the most significant third-party AAA titles for the new console, and the gaming community has already shown a lot of activities with their reactions.
The tweet from the official account reassured that no matter if you are an inexperienced player of the Assassin’s Creed series or a previous one who is well-prepared for more ninja action, the Switch 2 version will be able to demonstrate that the iconic stealth gameplay which the franchise is known for. However, what is more interesting is the gamers’ reactions to the announcement – and believe me, reactions are everywhere.
Some players are indeed thrilled about this announcement, User AesirMalos recently claimed, “Getting this for the Hybrid Powerhouse #NintendoSwitch2” decorated with fire emojis and everything to go along with it. On the contrary, HajemanS2 reported that they would be purchasing a Switch 2 within the next months and already having AC Shadows on their list. That’s true and very serious planning for future.
Yet there is another side to the story, and people’s reactions are indeed quite extreme. User DBaptistaSilva released a lengthy apology for the game saying “no one will buy that useless game even on Switch” and even accusations of game “erasing Japanese history” were made. This guy is so angry, and we are curious as to why he is. GrimRavenGaze expressed similar views regarding “the absurdity of killing Japanese history and then selling the game for a Japanese console.” The controversy over this game is already quite intense, to say the least, and it is still going on.
What is most surprising is that the mere announcement has set off a debate about the question whether or not to buy the Switch 2 at all. User Itz_Crossbow even went as far as tweeting asking Ubisoft directly “Is the switch 2 worth buying? I have the OLED but hardly use it,” and this started a massive discussion in the comments section. Users are almost acting like they are getting compensated for it by giving complete consumer advice in Twitter comments.
JayKay1sMyName shared some surprisingly deep advice, saying “I really like my Switch 2, but I am a hardcore gamer. If you have the OLED, then I don’t think any feature of the Switch 2 will attract you yet. I would recommend you to wait until there are 3-5 must-have games for you.” This is actually very good advice unlike the responses of some others that… were less helpful.
Then we have zoowoobglubdop who is predicting that AC Shadows would “probably run even better on Switch than outlaws since outlaws didn’t work on steam deck but AC did.” That being said, how do people even know this kind of thing? The amount of technical analysis that is happening in Twitter replies can be really impressive sometimes.
Of course, your practical questions are here as well. For example, lemuphinx was curious about the existence of cross-save features which is indeed a very legitimate concern for those who would like to carry on playing their progress from other platforms. Meanwhile, wchandlersville is also interested in the start date of pre-orders as it seems that some people are willing to swipe their credit cards the moment Nintendo gives the green light.
Price discussions have also turned into question marks areas, simply put – gaming is not that cheap these days. Moreover, Brain_Farticus unreservedly stated, “I will wait until the Black Friday sale makes it $20” which is the same with me, man, the same with me. On the other hand, id0ntm1ss is hoping for a giveaway to get the game because, after all, who does not like free stuff?
Even more interestingly, the announcement of the one game has stuck to the larger gaming discussions – the console wars, performance debates, pricing worries, and even politics all mixed up in one crazy Twitter thread. It’s almost like multiple conversations are going on at the same time, and they are all about the same game coming to the same console.
The tech people are mostly sure about how Shadows will come on Switch 2, considering they have seen Ubisoft’s capabilities when it comes to their new titles and the Switch hardware. There seems to be a kind of silent assurance that the developers have found the way to scale down these extensive open-world games and have them run on Nintendo’s hybrid console, which is perfect for those gamers who prefer to play while they are on the move.
In comparison, PlayStation and Xbox supporters are simply thrilled to see yet another large third-party title on their platform. It has always been
