Ubisoft has made it official and the release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2 is set for December 2nd, which has the gamers all hyped up for the launch. The announcement was made via the official Twitter account of Assassin’s Creed, where the gamers have been invited to wishlist the game and get ready for some assassination action on-the-go. For the Nintendo fans, this is a major announcement as they have been speculating about the performance of the next-gen Switch 2 with high-end AAA titles like this one.
So, what are the features that we can expect will be coming along with the Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Switch 2? According to the rumors, the game will be including the cross-progression feature, you can pick right back up on your game whether you are on a PC, console or your new Switch 2 at the exact point where you left off. This is a massive plus for the gamers who dislike the concept of starting afresh on a new platform. One such gamer Captain Chats illustrated the scenario quite well when he said, “Thanks to Cross progression ill pick this up. No way was i gonna be starting again. More games need this so i can play where i want.” It seems like cross-progression has become an indispensable feature for every game now.
The discussion around the topic of graphics is also very high. The official game description mentions that the docked mode will allow Shadows to “shine with the Switch 2’s full visual power” which quite literally caused the players to theorize about the resolution and performance. The user ennombler even straight away inquired, “So you’re telling me it’s 4K/30fps?” while others were inclined to think that it might be 1440p instead. Be that as it may, it seems that the Switch 2 version will allow uninterrupted connection when you are watching on the TV.
A somewhat odd situation has arisen – is there really no option for the pre-order to be pre-downloaded? Darkling Gaymer remarked this by saying, “Wish it was available to pre-order instead so I can pre-download it instead of downloading it on release day.” This does raise a pertinent issue given the fact that the file size of previous Assassin’s Creed games has been quite large. However, players like 1saacBT have already made their shopping timeline, he said: “I’m definitely gonna get it but I have to get Metroid prime 4 first then I’ll get this at a later date.” Priorities!
Another plus is touch support, which zaneyloop couldn’t be happier with, stating, “Glad to see touchscreen support. Most games ignore Switch’s touchscreen.” It is often these little, yet essential, features that make the portable version remarkable. That being said not everyone shares the same view – MetroidFREAK21 lamented “the game could’ve fit on a proper cartridge,” and it is indeed here that one begins to ponder about the storage issue and if there will even be a physical release.
The crossover drama which has already been ongoing is still being talked about. SHPArkeus appears to be one of the individuals who is “still mad about the Attack on Titan event” and truthfully he even goes as far as to say that he has been “locked out of some rewards permanently due to the crossover being crappily implemented.” On the contrary, ExcelionRyn is a very wise guy: “I am used to crossover events to be 9/10 times disappointed. Most of the time we barely get nice skin or a short story. You will learn to not hope in this life.” Harsh but probably true given the history of Ubisoft’s crossover events.
In any case, the players’ excitement is ever-increasing with noxtaku saying “I can’t wait to play it” and MaxPoweronez saying “Can’t wait!” and even adding some cute emojis. The December 2nd release is just the right amount of time for players to finish playing other games if they want to before they get sucked into what seems to be the first major third-party title released for the Switch 2.
It should be mentioned that this release is making the Switch 2 a serious platform for big AAA games right from the start. The very fact that a current Assassin’s Creed game is being released on all platforms including Nintendo’s latest machine speaks volumes about the third-party collaboration. Moreover, the heavy promotion of cross-progression is a clear signal that Ubisoft recognizes that many people today have multiple gaming devices like PlayStation and Xbox.
The actual test, however, will be how the performance of the Switch 2 version compares with those of the other consoles. Historically, we have seen some pretty rough ports to the Nintendo systems but delivering a good performance both in docked and handheld modes could make a difference in the people’s mindset towards multiplatform releases. Some gamers have already started asking for gameplay trailers so that they can assess the quality of the port themselves.
