Recently, PC Game Pass tweeted something so cute and somewhat weird that it felt like a crime if such a tweet were not retweeted, bothering gamers to rate their stealth capability on a scale of zero to Assassin-after Assassin’s Creed Mirage was added to the service. The responses? Just a chaotic stew of love, hate, and roast of one of the most recently added entries to an aged franchise.

But let’s start with the game. Oh, Assassin’s Creed Mirage; it was supposed to be a return to form: small-scale, less bangs on the stealth, little RPG filler. And for some, it was just that. User @MartiMooz went so far as to say it was their favorite in the series largely because of the stealth mechanics. Meanwhile, @Pjsprojects admitted to playing it more like a Rambo than a ninja-and he enjoyed himself.

But don’t we all? Replies were hammered with complaints that modern AC games are far removed from stealth. @ButaneGaming just spit the words out: “ruined AC games forever,” while @SuperMintyDog shot back, “Let’s not pretend these are stealth games.” Burn.

These are the confessions about being terrible at stealth that actually amused. @MaenDeveloper probably said it best, “I start stealthy 5 minutes later the whole fort is running after me.” Same, dude. @knarkhund embraced that chaos, admitting to that more than ingenuous, while @not_asian_asian ranked themselves as “an Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon,” oddly specific and painfully relatable.

Some other moments from the game were shared as well. @DarthLarzz recalled an AC3 bug wherein a collision with an enemy would send everybody flying to their deaths, with the streets glistening with corpses: justice. @HaitianGeek_ flexed some Hitman stealth prowess, while @BytesManic humbly admitted, “probably just Ass, not quite Assassin yet.”

The debate-whether Mirage really is a stealth game or yet another heavy L.A. strum-revived its anger again. @Smurfgotbeat stated in the beginning that modern AC games “aren’t stealth-heavy,” whereas @DrT0b0ggan placed the game on “2 outta 10” on the stealth scale; meanwhile, @MandoF2187 countered by saying they “rarely got caught” and found enjoyment in it more for its glories on the visuals, especially the sand and animal animations.

The creative direction of the franchise from Ubisoft remains, in fact, a hotly debatably topic. Some dismiss Mirage basically with “bare minimum/10,” as @HawkHunt puts it. Others like @VikingNineOne gave themselves a “solid 9” on the stealth scale, still showing love for classic AC gameplay.

Now, where does that leave us? Assassin’s Creed Mirage once again seems to split the fanbase. Some view it as a step in the right direction, and some totally went off the path many years ago. Whether you are insane silent killer or just a walking disaster (no judgment), what is clear is: Stealth has been and will always be the most debated topic of AC games.

Now on the other hand, they’ve actually given birth to some funny stories. Excuse me while I go alert some fort…accidentally.
