The Assassin’s Creed official Twitter account has shared a rather cheeky holiday post. It was an image with the text “If I didn’t already have them, things I’d ask for Christmas” and a link. The image’s minimalistic design was composed of the various game logos or symbols, and among them, one could easily identify the Assassin’s emblem, probably the Viking axe from Valhalla, and so on. It’s simply amazing. But as usual, the replies contained the real story, and gamers went crazy sharing their wishes, confessions, and even a bit of confusion.
To start with, the artwork was the highlight of the day. People were more than obsessing about it. Not long after it was revealed, the requests began flooding in for high-resolution, text-free versions to be used as wallpapers. One Twitter user, YungElation, even posted what was apparently a tidier version of the image claiming, “Image without the text, y’all.” Others like Pyke_64 outright urged “these look so cool; please release them as wallpapers for us fans.” Meanwhile, DonovanMartin5, replying to someone who shared the image, like “WALLPAPER PLEEASE PLLLLEEEAASEE” but just in that way and that tone. The artist too, is getting a lot of love; for example, KinLost1 says, “whoever made it deserves a raise.” So, Ubisoft, are you listening? You have some free marketing right there—just drop the wallpaper pack already!
The next thing that took place was that the conversations made a sudden shift from game requests to grievances. For a lot of gamers, this holiday post was the perfect opportunity to say what their biggest AC wishes were. The most common one was the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It was eke60853 who expressed it in such a simple and straightforward way, “We want ac black flag remake.” The whole thing became even more interesting when user thesilvervein pointed out a strange pricing situation by saying, “AC Blackflag still costing more than the later versions” and calling it a “really interesting case study.” So, why is it that the pirate classic can keep its price higher than the newest ones, like Origins and Valhalla? That’s definitely something to ponder about.
Some players were also on the side of reviving the Desmond Miles saga, which was a major A’s wish. “I hope a meritocracy is the one to handle it and that we eventually get Desmond and the apple’s continuation,” expressed the user. Another player, hellojulius, who describes himself as “a huge Greek mythology fan,” is just wishing to get a good laptop so he can finally play Odyssey. Relatable. And lastly, there was some confusion. The tweet confused some of the players. Shadowman2888 inquired, “Is it artificial intelligence or….?” He was probably referring to the picture. Others like thesilvervein were also perplexed and wondered if Ubisoft was “selling the game? Or the brand of Assassin’s Creed?” Can you say a valid point?—the tweet was pretty unclear!
Inevitably, every time a gaming-related question comes up, the platform issue will arise, too. AlanSchetter raised next-gen as the issue: “It’s so stupid. The old Xbox doesn’t support it. I have to go and buy a brand-new Xbox and then buy the game. You guys are wasting money.” Ouch! The problem of obsolete hardware is a real one. On the other hand, some players were there to flaunt their complete collections. Truthell, for one, exclaimed joyfully, “Collection complete on steam, ps, and xbox! I’m crazy!” which I can totally relate with.
There was even an insignificant side-debate on canon, to which johnnyoutlaw98 replied, “Female eivor is canon 😍🥰” Always a hot topic. And some were already looking ahead, like Koyrion, who answered a user saying they bought games on sale after hearing about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows with “no, it’s time for you to release another.” Looks like the next game hype is already building up!
Hold on! What was I saying? Oh yes, the tweet… It is remarkable that a simple, somewhat promotional holiday post can turn into such a big community pulse-check. It is part wishlist, part tech support and part art appreciation society. Players are not passively consuming the content; they are using it as a megaphone their wants are makes, wallpapers, price answers, and they certainly want their old consoles still to be operational. The enthusiasm, as always, is completely unbalanced and dispersed.
