Black Flag-remake-makers seem to have pushed out a leak18 on Twitter in which it says the removal of the modern-day sections is in fact true. You know, those moments when you are popped suddenly out of pirate life and shot into some random office work? Those would be replaced with more content from the-ahem-Edward Kenway days: more pirate work, more sailing, and shanties, fingers crossed.

Oh, and here’s a good place for the community to really divide: gameplay is allegedly leaning closer toward the RPG style of the recent AC games. Think Odyssey, Valhalla, you name it. Leveling, skill trees, all in. According to them, the maps will not be very much bigger, but the islands themselves will be full of new content and plenty of side activities to do in the same playground of the Caribbean.

Sooner than later public reactions went free wild, and oh, they are down and dirty.

Some gamers have seriously waited for the wipeout of anything modern-day. One pal named LastKnightGaming almost shouted, “Please be true. Black flag was my favourite Assassin’s Creed and the only one I finished. I HATED the modern stuff, it always took me out Of the game.” More people are for this removal; one simply said, “Good I hated the parts where I went back to the office.” So that’s a big plus for some.

Way down the downside: RPG elements. And that is where chaos starts. Loads of replies are disgusted with even the mere thought of it. User Batowsigh spilled down, “No I hate the RPG style shits terrible.” And the sentiment is just everywhere. XxNelsonxX called it a “new low after rock bottom;” Jose Vado Jr. says, “Ewww…..literally just give me Black Flag with nicer visuals. Newer AC games are so annoying.”

A genuine split among those preferring the old combat, which some would even describe as pushing one button over and over, and those that enjoy the depth of these RPG systems. User GORG argued back, “If you actually played the games and experimented with the perks and abilities you’d know it’s more than that.” But the argument came from Just a dude, “Yes, as opposed to R1 R1 R1 R1 R1 R1.” So basically, it’s a fight for simplicity versus complexity.

One more thing: with the whole plot issue. Removing the modern day might please a lot of the players, but Dani Hay pointed out a hitch, “So we should just ignore the whole plot with John/Robert/Aita then?” Because like it or not, those modern segments tie into the overarching lore of the entire series. Cutting them may upset the story, or at the very least, give seasoned fans an I-have-no-idea way to how).)

Well, Unconfirmed by Ubisoft is saying it’s all just rumors at this stage. But it’s really interesting because of the passion everyone has poured in. Being one of the few games jointly considered to be the best of its kind in the entire series, any change or interference with Black Flag, on this level, will be under a microscope.

The usual: nobody will ever be pleased. Ubisoft must walk a tightrope between updating the game for a new generation, and preserving the core of what went into making the original game so widely beloved. That means if rumors turn out to be true, the developers indeed have decided heavy matters on the Black Flag front-removal of the modern-day setting is a huge change, and executing it further in an RPG style is even bigger.

I do indeed see both sides. The modern day could be jarring, but added something to the narrative besides the rest of the story. And the RPG stuff? Well, they can be fun if done correctly, but they change how combat feels entirely. And here comes my opinion: Black Flag was all about all the acrobatics and counter combos, new ones are more about numbers and builds.

Anyway, we will get all the juice that’s out there in the meanwhile until the official announcement. One thing all the AC community can guarantee is that it carries something never boring. If you want to join in and pile criticism on it, the whole influx of debates is definitely worth following in this regard. So stay tuned; this being real would make it one of the most talked-about remakes in years.
