It’s almost been a year since Blizzard announced the upcoming remaster of Warcraft III and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. With that anniversary coming up, fans are wondering why there’s been almost complete radio silence on the project for months now.
The remaster, titled Warcraft III: Reforged, is a complete remake of the game from the ground up. Models are being remade instead of updated, voice lines re-recorded – everything is being made from scratch. Despite this complete remake, the developers are crafting it to be incredibly faithful to the original game with virtually no changes to gameplay or story.
Most of all, the game was promised to release in 2019. As of writing this, we’re peeking into October in a few days. With the year now a month into the fourth quarter, fans are starting to get nervous at the radio silence in regards to a game that should be released within the next few months.
Blizzard hasn’t announced any delays, and the Battle.net client still has Reforged set to release by New Year’s Eve. But as well as not announcing delays, they’ve announced nothing in terms of progress or teasers either.
Some fans have taken to social media and Reddit to discuss whether this is because Blizzard has been focused on WoW: Classic or any of their other major works recently. This is a silly train of thought, as Blizzard isn’t a handful of people that handle business one project at a time. Fans don’t have to worry about their time being taken up by other projects, as the Reforged team is its own entity within Blizzard.
That said, there hasn’t been so much as a tweet from the official Reforged account since June. In fact, the closest thing to news that the official Twitter has shared recently was eSports news for Warcraft III. It was January when last they mentioned the remake, and that was just a retweet from Blizzard’s twitter!

So are fans right to be worried about such a loud silence coming from the official team? As months stretch on, we get closer and closer to the previously-set release date within anyone ever mentioning whether they’ll be making it.
The good news is that BlizzCon is right around the corner at the start of November. If there’s anywhere that Blizzard will announce major news about their game, it’s at their conference. If the silence continues until then, it’s likely we’ll find our answer there.
