In the clip, none of the spectators had seen a player seamlessly glide along a wall before. As the clip quickly garnered attention, the concept of ‘wall running’ began to trend. Players are now fervently conjecturing the reasoning behind ‘reserving the ground for movement’, as the focus of the clip and the speculation shifts its attention. Everyone is trying to figure the meaning behind this clip because the video clearly depicts a game mechanic that is previously unknown to the game. As is the norm, players are now prepared for the return of previous mechanics or the unveiling of previously teased content. The speculation is overflowing, mainly because the video gives no context on either a new mode containing the mechanic or a permanent mechanic to the game.

Comments on the video were almost instantly taken over by people asking for ‘wall-running’ to be a permanent gameplay mechanic. Joordan Below, a player, commented on one of the videos and reacted in a way that perfectly represents the demands of the community: “Please for the love of god bring this as a base mechanic for all legends!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Please and thank you!” People who have played the Titanfall games see eye to eye on this issue.

Let me give my final thoughts about the Titanfall relation. If you didn’t know, As Apex is set in the Titanfall universe, it has become somewhat of a legend that players have specifically asked for the return of ‘wall running’, a feature that is shot in the Titanfall games. The fact that ‘wall running’ is not included in Apex has earned large amounts of criticism, as “[xVyperTv] stated, “Apex came from the titanfall universe we have everything in apex that titanfall has except wall running. Soooo say ‘You’ didn’t ask for this but the rest of us did.”

Still, there are some players alongside the rest of the community who aren’t completely in support of it. Abrian, a player who has shown strong disdain for it along with that, responded multiple times with the subtweet, “I’m not a titanfall fan. Keep the wall running bullshit to titanfall. I don’t give a fuck about titanfall.” In a way, this thought process is semi-reasonable; however, there was a deluge of responses that immediately contacted him. Someone called TB replied, “Literally everyone for years have been asking for wall running….the entire titanfall community that plays apex for example….u just typed words.”

Amid the replies were a small amount of gamers discussing the interplay of whether or not ‘wall running’ would bring destruction or enhancement to the ‘Apex’ iteration of the battle royale title. Without a doubt, the utter destruction of the gameplay is one of the dangers the critic raises, whereas the other camp believes the crashing novelty of ‘wall running’ would bring an element of ‘battle royale’ strategy to the game.

Some gamers appear to be raising issues about other aspects of the game, with the centre of the conversation on ‘wall running’. There’s k u z a e h who’s put in multiple entries, “we dont care for tbe 372 times, nerf pk, nerf pk, nerf pk, nerf pk,” which I suppose is a request to nerf the Peacekeeper shotgun? Then there’s the discussion about Caustic’s gas traps and how they’re apparently not working the way they used to.

One of the players named JollySmokeEater started a thread explaining, “Give Caustic his passive back. It literally is the character. He should never take damage in gas. You guys nerfed him harder than you buffed him with the changes to bang and now everything interacting with his gas.” Explaining their grudge against the changes about Caustic’s passive ability, in Jolly’s opinion, Respawn has “messed up” the gas trap.

Even with a single tweet that displays a cool movement, a variety of different conversations about the game’s balance and mechanics can be sparked, which is an interesting observation. Somewhat remarkably, the Apex community is always ready to share their opinions about this topic.

What really stands out here is the way Respawn marketers stay quiet after those teasers. They say, “look at this cool thing,” but instead of supporting the players, they simply allow the players to argue whether that should be in the game or not. As far as I’m concerned, this is a classic developer move.

Some of the players think this is to test the community reaction toward a much bigger movement overhaul to be implemented in the future seasons because of the wall running being a standard feature. Or the feature can be added to a limited-time mode and be removed after a week.

While the game already offers one of the best movements in the battle royale genre, with ziplines, jump pads, and more, the addition of Apex’s wall running would be a welcome complement in my opinion. Not only would it elevate the movement mechanics, but it would create more thrilling scenarios.

That said, the concerns some people have about the meta are understandable. For competitive play, people have flocked to a fixed set of strategies and weapon combinations that are presently in play in Apex. As people have grown comfortable with the meta, the introduction of wall running would force them to abandon those strategies.

Over the years, it’s been clear that Respawn stands apart from other developers when it comes to shaking up their game. It is largely inconsequential whether the wager is for wall running to be considered in the future or just through special temporary gamemodes. The opinions certainly suggest that the matter is of concern to the community.

While some users are complaining about the state of weapons or legend abilities, together with others lamenting how Apex is another type of game, the disparate nature of conversation incited by the tweet underscores the unwavering passion that Apex players display.

If the Season 1X update doesn’t bring wall running to Apex, I’d imagine it will be lost like many other minor feature tweaks. All the same, players feel better knowing their requests are taken into consideration.
