So, gamers, there’s a date to be marked down now: Friday, the 25th of September, at 7 p.m. Japan Standard Time or 3 a.m. on the East Coast. So at least another kidnapping of sleep before Danish natives for Podcasts.
And what’s the Xbox Tokyo Game Show all about? Right in the midst of the massive Tokyo Game Show, this Microsoft-run developer showcase means jaw space is allocated for Japanese games and studios. They have done it once before; it is always interesting to see what they throw into the mix, especially with the Xbox continuing to try and carve out a Japanese presence for years now.
The official Xbox tweet vaguely asks folks to expect “studio announcements & updates,” but, of course, the typical way these things go is that they never give away much before the show itself. But going through all the eager replies from gamers, we really do know what everyone is hoping for.
And boy, the answers put the expectations near-millies! Like seriously, is everyone and their mother asking for a Forza Horizon 6 in Japan? I have counted at least a dozen distinct comments for that. One said, Time for some Forza Horizon Japan,” another just yelled, “WE WANT FORZA HORIZON 6 JAPAN,” and threw three fire emojis. So yeah, it’s definitely on a lot of minds.
But Racing games from Japan are not the only thing people want! Many ask for Japanese RPGs and sequels to beloved franchises. Somebody asked for Lost Odyssey 2, which would be huge since that was one of the better JRPGs on Xbox 360. One is asking for Ghostwire Tokyo 2, which makes sense because the first one was kinda good. And of course, there are the infallible Silksong mentions because people are basically begging to have it announced anywhere at this point.
What I find really interesting is just how much people are asking for Japanese-developed stuff. Like one reply just straight up said “Hoping to see more japanese titles on Xbox,” which honestly sums up the whole vibe of this event. Xbox has been trying to court Japanese developers for years and this showcase is basically their big annual attempt to show they’re serious about the market.
