It’s boisterously crowded at the Gamescom Xbox Pavilion for World of Warcraft. And then the official Twitter account for Xbox tweeted the very phrase that every MMO player has come to hear all too often: “Realm is full over at the WoW booth.” And, boy, the replies tell the entire story. The replies ranged from hype, players frustrated because they simply could not log into their own accounts, to one loud, first question bouncing around everyone’s head: When is World of Warcraft ever coming to Xbox consoles? We mean, for real.
The main tweet from the Xbox account was a little update from the show floor with a picture of the crowd. Yet those gamers in the replies just blew up. FiniusMcTbag opened up with: “PUT IT ON CONSOLES YOU COWARDS,” and honestly, that can be felt from a lot of people. That was followed by the sentiments of many others, like k1x92, who asked, “WoW on Xbox Console when?” and samhenry1128 with, “Could #WorldofWarcraft come to console ???” It’s the question on everyone’s mind, especially with Microsoft owning Activision Blizzard now. I mean, it feels like a complete no-brainer, right?
But it was far from incessant demand. The vibe was comparably chill. “It’s honestly so cool to see some hype for WoW for once,” user ChoboSek responded to someone else. This really hit home! After a few rough years, it’s just nice to have all these players hyped again about this game, even if it is just at a convention booth. The entire thread continues on with a fun back-and-forth, with users Dess1823 and ChoboSek joking about getting kicked from the queue and telling one another to get back in line. That classic MMO feeling, all the way down to the grind, even if it’s just a line at a convention. So very relatable.
They vent a little, too. But nastynate brought up another issue, replying, “Wish I could play it, but I still can’t sign in @XboxSupport. Don’t cancel @XboxGamePassPC or else you’ll be locked out of your account and then ghosted.” Yikes. Account problems are bad, especially when all you want to do is play. And SrPanzaLoca apparently got really pissed off, questioning, “Why does a profile called Xbox keep posting games that aren’t available on Xbox? This is disrespectful to those who bought the Xbox Series.” And, I guess, that’s fair from him. A little tease to be able to point to a game at your plant to which people can’t even play on your console.
But mostly, it’s just gamers expressing their joy. LosSantosPlug replied, “Every gamer knows the grind is real—whether it’s farming raids in WoW or stacking cash in GTA Online. Gotta love when games test our dedication 💯.” And NextGenGTAHub added, “‘Realm is full’ – classic MMO starter pack. Now all we need is someone spamming ‘LFG, healer here’ in the hallway. 😂.” They aren’t wrong. That “realm is full” alert is, by now, at the peak of its iconic status. It’s a rite of passage.
So, what really is the deal with WoW on console? It’s an idea that’s literally been floating around for years now. User Mikefort82 answers with, “I’ve been asking for 15 years, get in the queue.” FIFTEEN YEARS. Now that is an extended wait for something. Yet with Microsoft owning the whole shebang now, it seriously feels like the prospect could be far more attainable. In response, FiniusMcTbag put forward a genuine point, saying, “They are leaving money on the table, you can plug a KB/M Into the thing!” Referring to that fact that Xbox does support keyboard and mouse means that control-wise, there is even no issue. Just thinking about the money.
Even the tweet itself channels an intense excitement at Gamescom. Users like iCrazyTeddy just went, “In the queue we get,” as Airdropified posted, “Positioned here 🫠.” They just conquered the experience. And that’s what gaming conventions are meant to be about—waiting in the agonizing line.
