Riot Games has introduced a fantasy-themed skin bundle for VALORANT dubbed Dolmir’s Revenge, which has already caused a split among the gaming community. The official tweet from the VALORANT account captured the announcement very briefly with the words “Roll for initiative. Make every round a fantasy with Dolmir’s Revenge” and included a promotional video that instantly spread reactions on different social media platforms.
Coming back to the main question, what exactly is Dolmir’s Revenge? The answer is found in the trailer and community comments which state that it is a high-fantasy inspired weapon bundle that takes the ordinary VALORANT guns and makes them look like they are from a Dungeons & Dragons session. The trailer featured Agent Clove as the Dungeon Master, perhaps the one narrating the story. Some players quickly recognized this as a clever thematic choice.
The reaction has been great… just to put it mildly, it is the usual VALORANT community chaos. While some players just hate the new aesthetic, others can’t get enough of it. User Justleo64 exclaimed “OK YEAH THIS TYPA TRAILERS IS SICK MORE OF THIS PLEASE” and others like E4erZ complimented the video production with “ya cooked the video, keep it up! ๐๐ฅ” The fantasy theme does seem to be a winner with a lot of community members who have grown tired of the usual high-tech or neon designs and have been asking for more creative skin lines.
Critics, however, were also present. User MarukoTsm called the voice-lines “corny ah voicelines lmao” while FLEURONTOXICA replied to them with “0 whimsy from the mayor of frown town as expected.” The back-and-forth that is taking place among the community members shows that whenever new content drops, opinions are very much divided.
What is very interesting is that a lot of players immediately spotted the Dungeons & Dragons inspiration. User dubthemat remarked “Why is no one discussing the fact that we now see Clove as a Dungeon Master? Fantastic skin Riot!” This concentration on thematic aspects is not something that Riot is usually associated with, but quite a few commenters appear to have noticed it and appreciated the artistic direction.
The timing of the release also raised some doubts. User RedDevil2106 remarked “Even though the skin is nice this might be an improper timing to release this” but did not elaborate on their perception. Conversely, some gamers like kiran__p took the announcement as a chance to express their discontent with the game in general, asserting they wanted to sell their account since “first they killed my viper.. now yoru.. now no fun in this game..”
Furthermore, there are also the inevitable comparisons with already existing popular skins. User itsvaynez mentioned that “reaver vandal is still better, this gonna cost a kidney just because im a egirl ๐ญ” which not only shows the financial commitment that is required for the premium skins but also reflects the players’ attitude of measuring the new releases against the established favorites.
Globally, some players voiced their opinions – TheForcuX wrote in Turkish “oooollmm buuneeeee laaan รงok iyi aq” which reveals his or her excitement about the bundle. Additionally, there was even speculation about the release dates with one user in Portuguese asking when the patch would arrive and getting a response from Grok that hinted at October 15th, 2025 for patch 11.08.
Another discussion point is the weapon inspect animations, with AdityaDaveSingh reacting to them as “the inspect wtfff ๐” which suggests that they are especially impressive or shocking. Similarly, coldzapvl seemed to imply that the skins might have drawn inspiration from other games with his remark: “Hahaha this skin feels oddly familiar… it feels like it took some inspiration from another game, hmm ๐ค”
The commonality among all these reactions is that Riot is still testing the waters of creativity when it comes to their skin designs, although not every release might attract every player. The tabletop fantasy RPG aesthetic is definitely a departure from their usual offerings and has already started to create the kind of buzz that is both exciting and skeptical.
As it has been with most VALORANT skin releases, the real test will be in how they perform in real gameplay and if the sound design, animations, and visual effects will be of high enough quality to justify the possibly high price tag. For the time being, however, the community is busy examining all facets of the reveal, from the voice acting to potential effects on gameplay.
The Dolmir’s Revenge bundle is Riot’s method of continuing to diversify their cosmetic offerings while still being able to maintain the competitive integrity that is one of the reasons for VALORANT’s popularity. It remains to be seen whether players will embrace this shift into fantasy-themed skins or stick to their current favorites, but one thing is certain: the debate is just beginning.
PlayStation and Xbox gamers have been similarly divided over recent releases.
