Ubisoft just unveiled their Gamescom 2025 plans and the response has… been less than enthusiastic, to say the least. There’s nothing really fancy about it. The company stated that Anno 117: Pax Romana, Morbid Metal, The Rogue Prince of Persia, and Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era will all be shown at the booth. There will also be community panels with dev talks via streams for those unable to be in Cologne. But will the players buy it? Absolutely not.
The immediate reaction was simply a unanimous scream of “WHERE IS SPLINTER CELL?” I mean, each alternate comment has these words in it. OperativeEcho basically said, “If you not showing splinter cell remake then go and shut your mouth,” which sounds harsh but… mood? arnaud41466 was almost praying, “Splinter cell remake!!! Let’s go this is Time team!!! This is time team!!!! Please!!!! New coming” – you can almost see the desperation there.
Well, it’s not just the absence of Sam Fisher that is causing all the uproar. Aside from the previously mentioned onslaught of requests for Far Cry 7, Ghost Recon updates, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Assassin’s Creed remasters, and basically every other major Ubisoft franchise NOT being shown, Mr. SRT is asking the real question: “So no announcements from Ubisoft this year? Or will there be at Future Game Show?” are they just holding it back, or is this really it?”
There were very unkind answers to that. “No remake game or new game released, from the plot, gameplay, creativity, and even the speed of making the game now, disappointing again and again, do you know how a person feels from full expectation to complete despair,” said Wayne Chi-damn that is real feeling. Shorie was more straightforward: “Why? You will show same boring games nobody cares anymore.” Ouch.
There’s this weird financial angle from Big Flower: “Bruh not gonna lie this is not even good for your finances and investors. Just show something, ain’t no way you have no money for a teaser. You’re not even doing your own show anymore.” Which, I mean… he’s not wrong? Ubisoft used to have their own big showcases and now they’re just doing Gamescom panels? What happened?
Getting back to the actual shows they’re putting on, if you are into city builders set in ancient Rome, Anno 117: Pax Romana looks quite intriguing. Morbid Metal sounds like a metal music game, potentially? Rogue Prince of Persia is that roguelike they unveiled a while ago. And Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era is getting some love from CrazyCryptoMan who tweeted “can’t wait for @MightMagicFates,” so at least someone is excited.
The streaming aspect is cool, I guess- community panels with dev talks could be interesting if they actually have news to share. But the overall vibe is Ubisoft playing it too safe. Where’s the hype? Where are the big reveals? JustHarry summed it up perfectly: “Wow, that’s all you’ve got? You used to be on top, now you’re a joke @Ubisoft” – clearly, a lot of people agree.
International anger is even beginning to manifest- alejand87583437 went off in Spanish about how they’re “miserables degenerados” and “delincuentes”, which Google tells me means miserable degenerates and criminals? Over what though? Probably a microtransaction thing knowing Ubisoft.
Amid all the negativity, there were some silver linings: NorkDorf Entertainment tried to be wholesome by asking “What’s the most thrilling part for you?” though there was some excitement for Heroes of Might & Magic. Still, they are drowned in the endless cries for… well, everything else from Ubisoft.
Kind of fascinating to watch, actually-a company with so many beloved franchises showing up to a major gaming event with what feels like their B-team lineup. No wonder players are frustrated. When you have spent years waiting for Splinter Cell or Beyond Good & Evil 2 and get more Anno instead? It hurts.
The real question is whether Ubisoft is holding back announcement for later or if this is really their 2025 lineup. Either way, the reaction to their Gamescom plans shows the players want the big hitters, not the side projects. Maybe they’ll surprise everyone with a last-minute Splinter Cell announcement in their stream. But probably not.
So yeah Ubisoft’s Gamescom 2025 presence is happening but acuity among fans is somewhere between “meh” and “open rebellion.” Tune into their streams if you want to see some dev talks about games you might not care about or just keep refreshing Twitter to see if they finally announce something people actually want.
