If Ubi marketing were an ancient Roman play, then in all fairness we could think that GSM backwardness would be the neighbor who got his from the wrong side of the street. Yes, a very openly worded official tweet stated: “I sent you my Roman Empire, please respond…” And a link to the demo was attached. Classic!
First and foremost, yes, demo is out. Which means you can create your Roman Empire in the demo. Quite fun if you are a city-builder and historical-fan. Anno games have always been about intricate economic simulation and pretty views, and this one is set in 117 AD, at the very height of the Roman Empire. Hence the name Pax Romana-that was the time of relative peace and stability under Emperor Trajan.
But let us get to what everyone’s talking about really, where all the fun lies.
At the very beginning of all this, duckmesillybaby said that the post was “such a chatgpt generated post” and demanded Ubisoft to fire this intern immediately. Ouch. That is harsh criticism for what seems to be a kind of rather dry viral-style tweet. GAM3S.GG then replied, “They must have got lost because I don’t see them?” Which is just confusing but sort of funny.
Then the legitimate issues started to pop up. HipnoJack (just Jack) actually had an interesting point to teach: “Looks good, but it makes no sense that the population speaks english. Totally ruins the experience. Hire some Latin experts and do the job right.” Actually, that is a valid point in terms of historical immersion. That would be neat if they had proper Latin dialogue with subtitles; that’s probably stretching a bit far for a city builder where your job is mostly resource management.
Then you have the legit questions posed by the people; TheGermanicist (Andreas) inquired, “Is this just for PC or Xbox also?” That’s always important info. And then there is UppercutLion who asks the… real question everyone is thinking about but is a little afraid to ask: “How much to rent game?” Because yeah, Ubisoft’s subscription service is a thing now.
Of course, you can’t have a Ubisoft-tweet without Assassin’s Creed requests. johnnyoutlaw98 begged straight up: “Assassin Creed set in roman empire please 🙏” Well, fair enough. We’ve had ancient Egypt and Greece; Rome would logically be next. And jtlenz1 said, “Okay I’ll play AC: Odyssey again,” which is a mood, honestly.
And then the weird stuff. Peter Tran went on a wild tangent about being attacked by “cia / usa military scumbags” and hearing firecrackers and voices saying he’ll burn This was… unexpected. And completely unrelated to Roman city building. But hey, that’s Twitter for you.
In such crazy back and forths, Review Game Drops AI still remembered to pitch with: “This looks amazing, @Ubisoft! Can’t wait to dive into Anno 117: Pax Romana!”
Then there’s LoveLonex replying to Jack’s language argument: “For what reason would you possibly need this,” which isn’t that clear but whatever.
Oh yeah, Semore_King demanded, “Fix Siege 🥀,” Nostalgia is powerful; update requests from Rainbow Six Siege gamers shall never cease, despite what Ubisoft is promoting.
The Anno series has always been a very rabid fanbase for complex mechanics, so this shall probably please them more. Said jtlenz1, for the casual gamers, the option is definitely there to just go play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey again. Good vibes for ancient Greece, if not quite Rome.
So yes, demo is out, and everybody’s got their own opinions; Twitter remains a madhouse of gaming discourse. What else, really?
