The gamer population and creative works-Kingdoms remain in suspicion and have furiously mobbed Twitch over this tweet. The tweet read, “Tune in to #808onTwitch week or the gummy bear gets it,” with an undecipherable image slathered across it. The replies then further went downhill.
For starters, who in the world even thinks about sending such a tweet? Is it a joke? Is it a threat? Is this some form of skewed marketing? No one really knows, but throughout the night, gamers showered it in reply with accusations of antisemitism, demands for Twitch to take regional controversies seriously, and much more. One minute you had people screaming that Twitch supports Nazis (yikes!), and the next Ian Tedd yelled about vodka in his eyeball. The internet is whack, man.
This sudden onset of terribleness initiated with a sort of @mention from Twitch to @beesustheDJ and @djanesintica. Replies containing that Twitch was a terrorist platform and queries as to why it was rewarding antisemitism started pouring in, with some majors dredging up Adin Ross controversies (for anyone unaware, he is an American Twitch streamer who had been warned multiple times on stream for apparently doing Nazi salutes). Others then brought up ads proposed by ICE that Twitch possibly ran, while they themselves had decided to run political content from afar. Too much.
In contrast, some random dude named BenjiShaw7 just copy-pasted “Twitch is a terrorist platform” underneath so many replies trying to look bot-like or out for revenge. Meanwhile, Chris Thompson blew things out of proportion over FaZe Clan’s crypto scams and demanded they stop promoting them. Then PabloCRO surfaced, pushing his NFT game like it was the best time for it. Classic Twitter.
But the real irony in this whole train wreck is Ian Tedd going further down the river of madness with “I’ve been drinking breaking records even do vodka in my eye what more does 1 English man after to do !!!” and then “We’re on the fucking vodka.” Sir, do you need assistance?
The damage had already been done as Twitch chose not to elaborate on the contents of the original tweet. The replies are now a schizophrenic combination of anger, bafflement, and absolute foolishness, cementing the fact that gaming Twitter is arguably the crazies on the internet.
So big What Now? Either Twitch is pranking us all terribly or this is some kind of ARG that has completely gone left. The gummy bear is now the most hyped candy in the gaming realm, and we’re still out of wits.
Meanwhile, if you were expecting a legitimate, normal day on gaming Twitter… I’m sorry. The internet wins again. And Ian Tedd? Man, drink some water.
(Also, if Twitch actually harms the gummy bear, we riot.)
