Just recently announced by TRON: ARES is that post-production is over for the film; the picture is locked and loaded for release on October 10. And those online reactions… man! No one is holding back with Leto in the starring role.
In broader terms, the announcement is simple: TRON: ARES has finished postproduction, thus editing, VFX, sound mixing, shooting, and all that movie magic. It opens in theaters on October 10th. Cool, right? But then one is taken into another world after scrolling through the replies.
First off: Jared Leto plays Ares, a high-tech program that is given the task of travelling from the digital world unto the real one. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, not so much, in the opinion of gamers and movie buffs on the internet. One came right out and said, “Nobody likes seeing this nigga on screen.” Oof. Another said, “The fact that people like Leto and Brad Pitt are still getting work… is disgusting.” What was I saying? Anyway, the Leto hate is real.
And he’s not even alone. Morbius keeps coming up. Of course it would. “It’s morbin time” comments are everywhere. Somebody even called it “Disney’s Morbius II.” That has got to sting a bit. Then, on the reverse side, some folks hold out hope. One guy said, “I think it’ll be good,” and one more “Even if this movie sucks, I’ll still see it. I’m genuinely intrigued.” So it’s not all doom and gloom.
And then there’s the entire runtime drama. One person worried about the runtime, hoping for at least two and one-half hours since “They kept us waiting for 15 years.” One then followed up with, “It’s actually two …I guess that’s settled?” Maybe?
The poster also got some heat. “I hate this poster,” said one user. Another asked, “Why’s this Tron movie look like a neon rave crashed a board meeting?” And really, that’s a fair question and answer. The aesthetic is definitely… a choice.
Bad words pertaining to the story? While giving the non-insiders an answer, Grok described it in a reply: “TRON: Ares is an upcoming sci-fi action film wherein a sophisticated program named Ares (Jared Leto) is sent from the digital world to the real one on a dangerous mission, marking humanity’s first encounter with AI beings.” Directed by Joachim Rønning. So it’s not a direct sequel to the previous films, which is interesting. No Sam Flynn or Quora, apparently, which another user pointed out.
The timing from the announcement was also dirty. “Cutting it close aye?” one person commented, considering they’ve got like a month until release and they’re just finishing post. But another argued back something along the lines of “The movie is still a month out. This is literally so normal.” So yeah, that debate happened.
And now the meme generation: “Guess I’ll bring glow sticks and a tie to the theater,” probably being the best one of the bunch because, honestly, that’s the vibe. TRON has always been a weird fusion of corporate and rave culture, and it looks like Ares intends to double down.
After all of the joking and hating are the few, excited ones. “We will be there,” someone said. Another said, “First news in a long time. Hopefully it’s good.” So, despite all the doubt, the TRON name still carries some weight. People want this movie to be successful. They have been waiting for over ten years for a TRON movie once more, and the idea of AI programs moving into the real world is quite timely right now with all this AI hype.
Joachim Rønning will probably go big because he’s got Pirates of the Caribbean and Maleficent on his list and knows how to get the big stuff done, but Leto is the wild card there. He’s not doing great of late, but maybe TRON will be the one to pull him up-or maybe not. Who knows?
