Trials of Osiris might be back, but maybe not really. Trials went online in Destiny 2 on the Solitude map, and while some of us were eager to get sweaty again, others have just been feeling illegal vibes.
Good combo: Trials are up and running, and the battlefield is Solitude. If you’ve been grinding Light Level and catsliding with a shotgun, this is your moment to show everyone else what’s what. Community acceptance? No. The tweet is being met by a chaotic sea of negative feedback with grumbles whizzing by faster than the speed with which Saint-14 cashes in on his second candle of the Fallen.
If I had to choose, a pretty massive gripe would be the power grind. Folks like @y0gi3_ are just outright saying they are exhausted from the unnecessary grind just to compete. “Still at tier 3 weapons and gear,” they said in a tweet. “Definitely not for people who have a family and work full-time.” Yeah, oof. And they do have a point: Trials has always been an endgame activity, but the entry threshold is very much higher this season.
Next comes the… shall I say passionate?… opinion about the grapple modifier. @JamesJ1492 basically said, “Grapple modifier is a negative… it won’t let you use grapple melee, and you just lose grenade ability… needs to go.” A bunch of other people rallied behind the one and accused Bungie of trolling the community on purpose by reintroducing something nobody asked for.
But there’s more to spice up the conversation. Somebody somehow manages to take the mode’s existence as proof that the entire mode is broken. @CouchAFC complains about losing against a stacked team five times in a row unfairly. Meanwhile, @Apex_SkyShadow channeled That Guy™ and got no powerful rewards, asking, “What the f are we doing here, Bungie?” That really is a point.
About that Sony shift…. Now with PlayStation money, some players aren’t just feeling those corporate vibes. @SrcasticGamer vented: “I am so GLAD you guys are being taken over by Sony… Can’t wait for layoffs.” Oof. Others, like @heyamaslacker, wished Sony would consume the studio: “I hope Sony eats your independence.” Damn, who hurt you?
Of course, not everyone is salty about the situation. @phorsakN went with grudging approval for the new skins while slamming Bungie for its customer service: “Props for the nice skins… wish your customer service was empathetic.” A small ray of positivity in a sea of despair.
What’s the verdict, then? Trials of Osiris exists slightly in-between: the reception is very mixed. From complaints about the grind to modifier frustrations to Sony drama, it shows Bungie has a number of fires to put out. Will they respond? Or will the Guardians have to deal with it anyway? Weigh in whichever side you go; it can surely go along with the salt needed for a teabag session while entering Solitude this weekend.
If Trials is not pulling at your heartstrings, how about this: “Can’t play cus it’s locked at Light Level 200. I guess we’re playing Battlefield 6, boyeees,” said @AestheticFamine. Doomed, honestly.
