Less than one day remains in Treyarch’s Zombies Master of Grief Leaderboard Event-again an event already engulfing the gaming community with raucous cries of triumph-therefore being an apt comparison despite a few annoyances. Participants on the leaderboard have faced criticism from allegedly loyal Call of Duty players for feeling that the mode did not measure up to Congruous Zombies experiences.
The very Treyarch-created tweet, when hyping the event, met with a great many replies, hardly ones to call enthusiastic. One player by the name @SfNINET stated bluntly, “Grief doesn’t work in this game (MECHANICS & SYSTEMS). Unlike the OG GAMEPLAY (WAW -> BO4).” Others, such as @ZPeepeepoo28408, lambasted the rewards – or lack of tangible ones – asserting, “The last map was months ago… I’m not playing just to get a few gums I won’t use lol.”
Then some really did not care about the event. @Jose64019 said, “Not an event I cared about,” to which @MightyThanos420 replied, “Grief is not fun. I’d rather play normal.” Ouch.
However, the gloom was not complete. In defense of the mode, one of them was @ayy_elias: “Won plenty of matches of grief without a single gum used so it’s far from any skill issue whatsoever.” However, the majority seemed to be disappointment, with tons of players lambasting Treyarch’s treatment of Zombies content throughout the years.
One complaint repeated itself: Updates with no real meaning: “@CrasherCrash2 vented, “Yeah great, 7 August is the end until the next COD comes, and then we only get 1 map per season again and next year we won’t get a Zombies mode.” Other players like @BeffGod had something to say about the rewards, “0 because I don’t care about gobble gum. If there was an actual reward, I would actually play it.”
Then there was the BF6 crowd. From one of the replies, “We’re all going to BF6,” it seemed quite a few players were looking beyond Call of Duty to their next shooter fix.
The backlash had a few hopefuls. “@Tylergzilla kicked off with a plea, “Please bring back chaos Nuketown,” while @DarkPulse28 called out: “I never got my gum for King of the Dead and I was number 1.”
And what we know is that the community has plenty of strong feelings regarding how this mode ought to be. So: will they listen? Or will that be the end for Treyarch when the players really do jump ship to Battlefield 6?
For the side-lines, there’s a ticking clock on the event; be it love or hate, the leaderboard wrap-up comes steaming quickly. Will you make the list? Or are you with the people who have already begun moving on? The subject, then, really does have some staying power.
Finally, it is a nice change from yet another Warzone map discussion. Hold on, did I just say Warzone? Oof, this is a whole new mess.
Hence, Treyarch’s Zombies events remain controversial, the newest one included. Whether or not they respond to criticism or stand their ground, only time will tell, but there’s one thing for sure: the players are not shy!
So, world: where do you land? Love it, hate it, or just waiting on the next thing? The Zombies community will probably continue being loud, regardless.
