Now Treyarch is announcing a bombshell on Twitter, and the Zombies community just exploded! Seriously, the studio straight up came out and said, “Got plenty to share on Zombies from next week,” with the usual “and there’s more than we can fit into just one week.” Uhh, excuse me? What does that even mean? A whole month of reveals? Because that sounds crazy!
“We needed some extra time to cook up something special,” was the other tweet, and honestly, this single sentence has the whole community speculating like mad. Could it be a new mode? Classic map remake? Crossover event? There’s a media attachment with the tweet too, adding so much to the hype. Treyarch sure knows how to hype something.
Gamers are losing their minds in the comment section already. Nathan joked, saying, “go ahead and say the line…”, obviously referencing the iconic “We’re back!” line from previous Zombies trailers. Markus from Germany was wondering if the extra cooking time meant gameplay changes, which is a fair guess. And Michael Connelly said he’s about to apply for an internship at Treyarch because of the hype. Same.
So some lose their patience, though. One guy wonders why Treyarch couldn’t have said this earlier instead of keeping the community in the dark about it in the first place. JoeGreen asked, “Why not just tweet this from the start?” An honestly somewhat icy take: The more transparent the devs have been, the more the gamers appreciate it—even if the devs just said, “Eh, we need some more time.” Tim owed Treyarch a big one for communicating: “We as a gamer fan really appreciate that!” Thanks, Treyarch, at last.
Then there was something about the state of Call of Duty lately. Said user, HRiiLS, shared their two cents: “Modern Zombies feels more like a COD smoothie rather than a thing of its own.” Zombies used to feel totally different when compared to the multiplayer, and now it is just “mp/wz with a zombies theme.” That one is quite a deep take, and this is exactly in line with what many longtime players have been feeling for a while. The learning curve now is just bizarre to get applied; maybe it’s great for a newcomer but just kills the spirit for the OGs.
And, of course, you cannot talk about Zombies without dropping some content creators’ names. Major shoutouts went to MrRoflWaffles, aka Milo, in the replies—the other players credited him with maybe powering Treyarch into communicating. “Legend in this sht,” said TB2onyt, which certainly is. Milo’s evidence on the communication crisis might be what pushed Treyarch into reacting, so that’s a win for the community.
Some are already speculating on what the “something special” might be. Praise mentions, “Stranger Things upside-down vibes like die maschine,” which is a worthy theory. And Oasis Liam jokingly said the media attachment is a “whip I need,” which is hilarious. But seriously, that attachment probably holds some clues, so folks are tearing it apart frame by frame.
Then there was a dash of drama in the replies as well. The drama-maker says Treyarch is in a “panic mode,” which might be stretching it a bit, but there sure is a pressure. With Black Ops 7 allegedly coming this November, Treyarch absolutely have to give it all. Drawbacks are hoping for a return to classic Zombies mechanics like the point system, with TragicGhost mentioning it.
Pretty much excited mixed with cautiously optimistic vibes going around. Gamers are hyped for the reveal next week but check their expectations, knowing Treyarch promised big once before and didn’t come through on some occasions. This communication from their side is something, anyway. Maybe things will start moving towards better days.
What should we expect? A few teasers, perhaps some gameplay, and hopefully, an in-depth look at exactly what this new Zombies experience is and what goes into it. Treyarch said there’s more than they can fit into a week, so we might be looking at a longer period of rollout. And “something special” can mean anything; it can be a new wonder weapon or an unexpected collaboration. And that’s the overwhelming land of possibilities where Zombies are made.
Some really just boil down to Treyarch feeling the heat from the community but are trying to step up. The extra time taken might just be worthwhile if they decide to drop something epic on us. So get it marked on the calendar, set all your alert notifications, and brace yourselves for a Zombies unveiling that is going to make waves for the whole Call of Duty universe. Treyarch is cooking; the only thing left to do is taste.
