It has been a minute since a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has come out. The last one was Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam, a mobile skateboarding game. Needless to say, fans of the series have been anxiously waiting another installment.

Well they’re finally getting one, only it’s a remastered version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. These games were beloved at the time of their release back in the late 90s. They essentially put skateboarding on the map in the video game sector.

It’s now 2020 and skateboarding games have come a long way. You have titles like Skater XL and Session that have progressed the genre in so many authentic ways. They feature amazing graphics and intricate flip controls.

Now these remastered versions won’t be nearly as technical, but they should definitely bring back nostalgia for a lot of players and elevate the series in the right ways. Already, the graphics paint a much better experience visually and you can imagine the controls will be more modern.

Fans looking to see how much better the remastered versions are don’t have to wait long. A demo will in fact be available in August, which is just a couple of months away. If you pre-order the game digitally right now, then you can access the demo on August 14.

In terms of what the demo will feature, it’s taking place in the iconic Warehouse location. It’s the very first level that debuted in the original game. It’s only right that the demo would feature one of the most important levels in skateboarding video game history.

Screenshots and clips of the remastered Warehouse paint quite the picture for players. There are more details, the color is better, and it seems like there are a couple of layout tweaks to keep things fresh.

These remastered versions are set to release September 4. Can the series make a storming return and will the game’s developer — Vicarious Visions — progress the skate genre in impactful ways? Time will tell.

Either way, it’s great to see the return of one of the most popular series ever. The first Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater changed the genre in so many ways and it could very well do it again.

Right now, there’s never been a better time to be a fan of skateboarding games. Hopefully, this resurgence continues because these titles are so fun to play for hours upon end. They always seem to deliver.
