So yeah, the internet’s gotten all crazy about Tobey Maguire being spotted in London. Not just any ordinary time, two gargantuan mega Marvel movies are purportedly shooting there—that is, what are the odds? Those movies go by the ill-statured names of ”Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and ”Avengers: Doomsday”!!! Not a drill, people.
That original tweet by cosmic_marvel dropped this bomb, and the replies went off the charts! Desperately hyped, those who doubted, and some are just… sick of it! But the generally unspoken consensus is: this is something big, and him being there is a huge part of it.
Let’s really get into this, shall we? Tobey Maguire, the OG big-screen Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy, is in London. He basically does not pop over to London for a casual vacation. One user stated that he usually visits much more exotic locales. Superb! That, as another user chimed in, is “Definitely NOT a coincidence.” It’s filming time, baby.
Which brings us to two big movies, in fact. ”Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the next chapter for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and ”Avengers: Doomsday” is rumored to be this massive two-part event that basically puts an end to the Multiverse Saga. One user named Sai commented that it is “about multiverse and existence itself giving an end to the entire MCU and multiverse thing. Meaning every hero gonna fight against Doom.” That sounds… intense. And expensive.
The burning question now is: Is Tobey doing these movies? The answers are mixed. Some are screaming yes, like the one who said “JUST GIVE HIM HIS OWN MOVIE. TIRED OF THIS SIDEPIECE SHIT.” Then you have cautionary ones asking “I love the idea of him being in Avengers Doomsday but is he really going to be in it?” And now it’s almost like a crowd thinks No Way Home was enough and should leave the legend alone.
Yeah, well that logic makes sense enough: after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse is basically wide open. So bringing Tobey’s Spider-Man back for an Avengers-level event just makes so much sense. It’s also just something the crowd would love; and if Avengers: Doomsday is such a finale as they’ve been promoting it to be then all widespread heroes must surely be needed. Even the ones from other universes.
Then, there seems to be some flaw in logic about which movie he is actually in. The user CLB pretty much flatly stated, “No, he isn’t in brand new day.” So maybe he’d only be in the Avengers flick? That does make sense, in a way; having him suddenly show up in another Spider-Man movie so soon might be overkill. But then another user, NateRConley, brought up an ironic argument about how everyone assumes Tobey could be in both but thinks it’s absurd for Tom Holland to be in both, when that’s way more likely. And that point stands!
Location is of paramount importance here. London is a megalith in film production and is always touted as the film capital of the world. So it serves as a perfect host for these overwhelming, highly secret projects. You’d rarely call this amorphous madhouse a film location!
Others, of course, are less thrilled. Some think the multiverse stuff is getting too complicated. One user named Jamie Ferreira said “I don’t get why they don’t do just some standalone movies that wrap up their stories without them travelling to the main timeline.” And another, PlasticTree_Fan, worried that “having too many characters is a good idea, sometimes a simpler story is better.” They’re not wrong. Balancing a giant cast is a nightmare.
And it’s wise to say that the hype is too real. Just imagine the possibility of Tobey Maguire swinging with the big shots of the MCU; any comic book fan would be heartbroken. This is the kind of crossover event that dreams are made of. And Marvel doesn’t really need an introduction on what to do after the success of No Way Home.
They were some silly side tracks with the replies. Somebody wanted James Franco’s Harry Osborn back, which is a pretty elite wish. Another whole discourse originated when someone asked where in London this was happening and proceeded to receive sarcastic answers like “South Drumbumshire.” Classic Twitter stuff.
So, what’d you all think? Until an official announcement comes from Marvel or Sony, it’s all just baseless chatter. But with all the assets laid out before us, Tobey Maguire in London + two big multiverse movies filming = He’s probably in a suit again. Whether for a brief bit or top billing remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, though: Every single paparazzi shot coming out of London’s going to be tracked by the internet for the next couple of months. It’s going to be fun.
