You can’t bring up open-world RPGs without thinking about The Witcher series. These games are so full of depth and interesting characters. You could honestly spend months leveling up your character and progressing through the rich stories.

Out of all of these games, The Witcher 2 remains a fan favorite. Developed by Projekt Red, this sequel to the original received critical and commercial success. It sold an incredible 1.7 million copies in one year of being out. If you’re looking to re-visit it or perhaps play it for the first time, you can now get it for 85% off through the Steam store.

This is quite a deal for such an important game in the series. If you’re not familiar with The Witcher 2, you take on the role of Geralt of Rivia once again. He is just as likable as he was in the original, although he’s burdened with a lot more. The game has a lot of political undertones that immerse you in a world on the brink of war.

The towns are filled with corruption and the characters are not as fantasy-like as you might expect in a fantasy RPG. The Witcher 2 seems more of a game for adults, where you must pay attention to the political complexities and the racial tension brewing with each class.

The sword/magic combat system works extremely well in this game. There are so many skills to master and items to collect, which is what you’ll spend the majority of your time doing. Just keep in mind, learning the combat system will take several hours of play. This is because the game has a bevy of controls, from navigating the targeting reticule to messing with the items menu. Crafting and alchemy also take some time mastering.

When you do get comfortable, though, you’ll truly feel like a brutal monster hunter. In terms of combat, it can be pretty challenging. There will be times when fighting and winning aren’t achievable, so you’ll end up retreating to a different area. It’s perfectly okay to do so until you’ve mastered the combat system and progressed Geralt’s skills enough.

The Witcher 2 certainly is worth recommending to PC users looking for an enriching experience with added difficulty. It could be just what you need to pass a few hours while enjoying a gripping story and intense combat scenarios. This amazing sale on The Witcher 2 and other games in the franchise officially ends on April 14th.
