Bloober Team has quite the reputation for making great horror games. So far, they’re responsible for the likes of Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2, Observer, and then Blair Witch most recently. These games put an emphasis on creepy atmosphere and mysterious paranormal elements.

The talented team is back at it again with The Medium, an upcoming psychological horror game that was just featured at today’s Xbox Games Showcase. It was one of the more captivating highlights, mainly because this game will feature two realities running at the same time on the Xbox Series X.

It’s an innovative design that should show off the true capabilities of Microsoft’s next-gen console, at least in theory. In the trailer we see a breakdown of the two realities. One will be traditional reality and the other will be the spirit world.

Thanks to the Xbox Series X’s powerful specs, players can enjoy both at the same time. This design alone makes The Medium a powerful title that could even go on to become a console-seller if it’s received well by gamers.

The competition between the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 has been neck and neck, but this game’s dual reality design could help Microsoft pull away for many interested onlookers.

The gameplay picks up with the main protagonist exploring some abandoned building. Both realities are equally moody and different. It’s apparent that The Medium will provide unique atmosphere that begs to be experienced firsthand.

In the spiritual world, there are hidden secrets that help players figure out pathways and puzzles in the real world. Players will go back and forth discovering hidden secrets that help shape the game’s story.

It’s also worth mentioning that there are two distinct soundtracks to compliment both realities from Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski. Yamaoka is a renowned Japanese composer that did so much for the Silent Hill series.

Bloober Team isn’t sparing any expense to make The Medium stand out amongst the many other horror games currently available on the marketplace. It must have taken them a lot of time and resources to craft the dual realities and they deserve a ton of praise for such innovation.

The Medium is currently scheduled to release this December on the Xbox Series X and Microsoft Windows. It’s still early, but it’s showing a lot of potential and could help Microsoft’s next-gen console do really well in terms of sales.
