The Last of Us sequel II just got leaked by hackers who took advantage of a security vulnerability to gain access to the developer’s servers. This was explained from a new report.

It was this morning; Jason Schrier Bloomberg News’ reporter revealed that hackers could be the cause of the leak. They managed to crack open a server vulnerability in a patch for an older game hosted on the server, and then they used it to gain access to the developer’s central servers.

Also, the leaked footage is likely from one of the developer’s early build already deployed and was being tested by developers, so there could still be differences from the final game, especially with the current plight of Naughty Game’s studio.

“After talking to two people with direct knowledge of how TLOU2 leaked as well as some Naughty Dog employees, I have a good idea of what happened. Short version: hackers found a security vulnerability in a patch for an older ND game and used it to get access to ND’s servers.

I think the footage that leaked is from devs playing an early build (I haven’t watched it). Most importantly, rumors of this being an act of protest by a contractor whose pay was robbed are not valid. (ND extended pay and healthcare benefits for contractors due to COVID)”

Not too long after the leaked footage slowly was making the rounds online, Naughty Dog took the opportunity to confirm that The Last of Us Sequel II will be released on June 19th. Due to that, Ghost of Tsushima also got a little delayed a few weeks so that it won’t be coming out on June 17th again.

The Last of Us Sequel II was planned for this month; however, the game is still being delayed due to the current pandemic. Hopefully, it’s not a long delay, in less than a month, fans will get a new experience of Ellie’s adventure.

“The good news is, we’re nearly done with the development of The Last of Us Part II. We are fixing our final bugs. However, even with us finishing the game, we are faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.”
