This is some real bombmath to be thrown through the air for The Last of Us fans-these script books. The first and second-part scripts will be released this December as the world web splits up with some gamers being happy and some of them not so much.
It is now available for preorder and contains the entire scripts written by Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog alongside screenwriter Halley Gross, with the foreword penned by Troy Baker, who voiced Joel himself. This is basically a holy grail for hardcore fans, as it is the means to go even an inch deeper into the emotional and meaningful journeys of Joel, Ellie, and Abby. That is where others stop.
Here came the backlash!
@mystikspiral90s was blunt: “Stop milking that shit.” Ouch! Others feared Naughty Dog went too far. “You are milking this to oblivion and it will not be long till you loose the goodwill of fans,” @LordoftheMorn spouted (Yes, he spelled “lose” wrong just to basically make the point).
On the other hand, some of the responses were the farthest thing from salty and were then filled with excitement instead. “@Rashomon20s” cried, “OMG I NEED PART II SCRIPT NOWWW. 💎” While, @DomTheBombYT joked, “Waiting for the script of Part 3 😉” (Neil Druckmann, take note).
Here’s the practical side of things. @Darryl_Lawson_ went on a search for this book on Amazon UK and wondered, “Why can’t I find this?” Meanwhile, @Uncharted7108 stepped up to rescue by providing the link to the German Amazon store. These acts further prove that gamers find their way.
And for the international fans, @luiscab51170 asked, “French trad edition?” While @AndyPeFe1 wondered if there would be a Spanish one (No official word, though; fingers crossed).
But really—why now? The Last of Us: Part II came out in 2020, and last year came out the remake of the first one. Fresh from having an HBO Series, some players feel like Naughty Dog is squeezing every last ditch out of this franchise. On the other hand, others say that script-books are rare in gaming, and it is a rare opportunity for fans to actually get to study the writing.
Like it or not, one thing is clear-The Last of Us is around for eternity. Whether in the form of video games, TV shows, or, perhaps now, script books, the story of Joel and Ellie keeps finding new ways to stay relevant. So, guess what, if you’re not into it then don’t buy it. But for the collectors and lore junkies, December is looking way costlier.
And pre-orders have begun already, so if you care, I’d tell you to shake out your wallet, grab it before it goes out of print, or just wait for that inevitable, “It’s happening! Part III!” announcement, because, let’s be real here—it’s happening, eventually. Maybe. Hopefully.
