We’re only a few months away from the release of what’s the most anticipated release of the current generation, at least for PlayStation 4 users, as The Last of Us Part II is currently scheduled to be released for Sony’s console in May. Of course, the game was originally scheduled to be released later this month, but shortly after revealed its original release date, Naughty Dog announced that they needed more time to put the finishing touches on the upcoming sequel to their 2013 survival-horror masterpiece.

The developers have shown off a handful of trailers over the last few years, and for the most part, all of them have been pretty well-received. Naughty Dog seems extremely confident in their upcoming sequel, and for good reason, as the Sony-owned studio rarely disappoints.

According to Anthony Newman, who is the co-director for The Last of Us Part II, the upcoming Sony exclusive will redefine AAA games.

Judging from the footage that we’ve seen from The Last of Us Part II, combined with Naughty Dog’s impeccable track record, it’s pretty safe to assume that the game’s co-director is right on the money and that the upcoming survival-horror sequel will redefine AAA gaming.

When it comes to the in-game content, The Last of Us Part II will be about 50% bigger than the first game, as Naughty Dog’s narrative lead Halley Gross, who previously worked on TV shows like HBO’s Westworld and Amazon’s Too Old to Die Young, said as much during a recent interview.

“The game I think we’re saying is about 50% bigger, but it is massive, not just in length, but in like, all of our levels are bigger and wider, we have more cinematics, we have more characters, we have more animations. We have larger melee systems, in every way, this game is bigger and better.”

A select few will be able to experience some of that content at the upcoming PAX East event, which takes place in Boston later this month. The developers of TLOU II said that the PAX East demo will be about an hour-long, as players will take control of Ellie, who, in the demo, will work to clear out the infected who are roaming the outskirts of Jackson, Wyoming.

As of right now, it’s unclear if we’ll get to see any of this footage after the event concludes, but luckily we’re not too far away from the scheduled release date, as The Last of Us Part II will be available for the PlayStation 4 on May 29.
