Capcom has just recently unveiled the heavily anticipated theme of Sagat for Street Fighter 6, The Silent Ascetic, and the players are acting crazy, with some justified, while maybe others not so much. Considered as the theme representing Sagat’s trek to becoming one with his consciousness in the mountains, the reactions to this track have varied drastically from extreme excitement to absolute disappointment.
To begin with, this theme combines Asian traditional-style sounds with some modern touches, giving an origin hint to Sagat from Street Fighter 2. Some users like @mrbreadmond, who called the sneak reference at 1:48 an absolutely classic move; meanwhile, @The_Viksonian could look past it, enjoying it as a sort of sequel to the SF5 remix- showing growth while still holding to his identity.
But the rest are just not feeling it. @Blacked145018 bluntly stated it was boring as fuck; meanwhile, @denisenhor felt it was forgettable for a character theme. Ouch. And then @GamingFather4 wondered why themes in SF6 just don’t hit, and replies started to build up into a mini-debate.
Then there was the debate about modern versus classic inputs. @elliotching went full-in, suggesting damage scaling adjustments for modern controls to keep things fair. Because apparently balancing fighting games have now become an algebra problem!
And let’s not forget about the lords of Sagat, all happy that he is back with @Gro3_ chiming in: Inner peace is true strength while @yang_shindo complimented its fit for his evolved character. Not so for @ShaadiWatts, who said: Two characters I was hoping would NOT return for SF6!! tagging both Sagat and Bison.
Then, perhaps the icing of the cake was put by @DomSOS_, who ended up sampling Sagat’s theme twice and almost ironically also released a remix out of excitement.
Love or hate, at least it got everyone talking. And judging by Capcom’s track record (pun fully intended), they will definitely keep evolving the soundtrack just as they do with the game. Now, who’s so brave as to yell over the next DLC character’s theme?
