Without even stammering to say, the players really went wild.

The tweet itself said: “Hey, wanna test your brain with some strategy? We got games for that.” It linked to an SE page displaying Fantasian, Romancing SaGa 2, and Bravely Default. However, the replies? That’s another story.

First off, there was some confusion. “These aren’t strategy games lmao,” came a response from an annoyed user. Another noted the irony in Square Enix calling these games strategic when in reality, they are not SRPGs (Strategic RPGs for those who don’t know). Ouch.

Then came the demands. So. Many. “Release Bravely Default on PlayStation!” one shouted. Another begged for a remaster of Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. And let us not forget the outright money-making activist who said, “Xenogears and you will make money.” Bold statement.

Then came the drama. Starting especially with the debate over Final Fantasy VII Remake style combat. Some were very furious with the shift from turn-based to action. “FF7R combat is better than turns,” someone claimed. Another countered, “Wrong. It’s playable because of slow-mo.” And then, someone pretty much sighed away, “I hope FFXVII goes back to turn-based.” Good luck with that.

Then there were… interesting takes. One labeled Square Enix “rinsing and repeating” the same games for 15 years. Another joked E33 fans (whatever that means) would totally black out these games. Then came the one fellow who called the physical release of Bravely Default a “shitty game key card.” Just mean.

But there were responses that weren’t dripping in sarcasm. Some of the players were genuinely pumped. “I own all these except Bravely Default because it’s not on PS5,” said another. Another declared Romancing SaGa 2 a GOTY contender. Then came the adorably demanding request for Neo Fantasian merch.

So what’s the takeaway? Square Enix owns the list of good turn-based RPGs, but gamers want more. More ports, more remasters, more Final Fantasy—preferably turn-based. And maybe less Denuvo. (Seriously, that came up, too.)

Will Square Enix leap at the opportunity? Your guess is as good as mine. But if anything, their fanbase doesn’t hold back when posed with a question. And honestly, this is what makes the RPG scene so fun. Whenever they’re downing the devs, they’re enjoying themselves.

For the meantime, will look at whether Xenogears is indeed coming back. One can never be too sure.
