So Insomniac puts out some massive announcement and now PlayStation Plus members are buzzing with excitement. In the supported areas, the Game of the Year Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 and the further-enhanced Marvel’s Spider-Man PS5 Remaster have been entered into the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. That just means if in case you are subscribed, this is one of the finest superhero titles that you get to download and play without any extra charge. It’s pretty cool, honestly.
Moments after the news dropped into the bird site, comment sections became battlegrounds. Within minutes. It is the same usual story every single time a PlayStation exclusive gets a re-release worldwide or onto a service. The Xbox communities basically come out clamoring for a port. Nothing changes this time.
The tweet itself from Insomniac was all celebratory: “Swing into action!” with enough spider emojis attached to it. Then came the replies that were chaos personified. User ‘kidsmoove’ questioned, “When will Spider-Man swing onto Xbox?” and this just set off countless reactions. User ‘InfernoSpectre’ probably with a less polite intent just shot an unceremonious, “whens it coming to xbox” as if it were a given. Then came the best rebuttal that PlayStation fans could muster: User ‘arda_germany’ hit back at the annoying begging comment with a bewitchingly savage and somewhat true comment: “Buy a ps5 its not hard.”(Because as everyone knows, it’s a first-party Sony game developed by a Sony-owned studio, so it will never, ever see the light of day on Xbox. Not even once.) And yet, the begging is untiring. Every. Single. Time.
Since it has become such a meme in itself, it is starting to get hilarious for some other users. ‘TedVillavicenc’ replied to another begging comment with: “More port begging” followed by a rolling-laugh emoji. Then, while responding to another message, ‘paulthecesar’ said, “As soon as you buy the thousand dollar Xbox Ally Rog Ally Series X. It’s an Xbox right?” Which is hilarious because of the sheer nonsense it contains, but you get the point. Exhibit A of the ongoing console wars, barely hidden beneath a simple game announcement.
Although… that wasn’t all about begging. Some fans were genuinely hyped. ‘MyGamingBro’ called it “One of the best platinums I have achieved!” Flexing quite hard there since the trophy list in the game is no joke. Then the conversation resumed on whether they were going to platinum the Venom game as well. Anyone who’s played Spider-Man knows that plat is a grind but a rewarding one.
Thereafter, comments went along the lines of confused or demanding for something else. ‘Ayoreingame’ was asking about a physical release for the PS5 remaster, which is a fair demand as most collectors still prefer discs. Then ‘WebbJarred’ proceeded to rant: “Why dont you swing into action WITH THE SUITS IN SPIDERMAN 2! GIVE US THE SUITS!!!!” which is another hot topic in the Spider-Man 2 community revolving around the missing suits from the first game. Folks take their digital wardrobes very seriously.
Of course, you can’t have a Spider-Man conversation without someone bringing up Wolverine. ‘ComicAcolyte’ gave “Brother where is Wolverine?” with a gif because, yeah, Insomniac is working on a Wolverine game too, and absolutely nobody can wait for any news about it. We can’t even have a moment to enjoy these news about Spider-Man?
A little foreign juice found its way into the response. ‘sterZi_’ wrote in French: “Mais vous êtes morts ou quoi ???” which translates to “But are you dead or what???” which is… aggressive, but you gotta appreciate the energy. And such Argentine spirit continued with ‘RafaelCorradeS3’ pasting the iconic opening theme from the 90s Spider-Man cartoon because the phrase “swing into action” triggered that nostalgia hard.
But the real story here, beyond the game being available, is the sheer predictability of gamer reactions. It’s a cycle. Big PlayStation exclusive gets a re-release or goes on PS Plus. Xbox players ask for a port. PlayStation players tell them to buy a PlayStation. Everyone argues. It’s like a weird digital ritual at this point. And honestly, it’s kinda exhausting to watch but also low-key entertaining in a trainwreck sort of way.
For those who haven’t played it yet, though, this is a huge win. Spider-Man PS4 is genuinely one of the best games of the last decade. The swinging alone is worth the price of admission—oh wait, it’s “free” with a subscription now. Even better. The story is emotional, the combat is slick, and New York feels alive. The PS5 version has haptic feedback, faster loading, and visual upgrades to make it look stunning. If you have a PS5 and haven’t played it yet, there is no excuse with this release.
So yeah, Insomniac gave players a great deal today. But they also gave us a front-row seat to the never-ending console debates. Which, let’s be real, is part of the fun of being a gamer online. The chaos, the demands, the memes. It’s all part of the culture. Now if you’ll excuse me, I might just go swing around the city for the hundredth time. Because why not.
