Focus Entertainment has recently revealed another pair of announcements for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, and the fans are losing their minds-but not exactly in the way the devs probably had foreseen: The official tweet showed the Pyrecannon with the ever-famous caption “Brother, get the flamer. The heavy flamer,” yet, half of the replies state that is NOT a heavy flamer. Uh-oh.
The announcement trailer, which looks pretty nice by the way, showed the Pyrecannon laying out glorious fire effects, smashing hordes of enemies-outstanding stuff for style against those xenos filth. Focus Entertainment was so far going to recommend this weapon as their number one choice for crowd control, stressing absolutely didactic points of style. But mere minutes after the tweet went live, Warhammer lore officers started contradicting the announcement by stating that the weapon shown is, really, just a regular Infernus flamethrower and not of the heavy variety.
Chaos erupted immediately. Response ranged from hype”RAGHHHHH HEAVY FLAMER!!!!”–@Specterkni1337- to flat corrections “That’s not a heavy flamer tho..”–@Andreheheh. Some players, such as @40ktrasfondo, brought out reference screenshots to back the claim that Terminators carry the REAL heavy flamers, and Salamanders fans, furious at the apparent lack of representation, shouted @FringDavi: “Now give the Salamanders a heavy skin. Its a shame they were relegated to sniper. I want a big green boi with a flamer.”
The confusion grew so deep that players began debating WHOSE heavy flamers should exist in the game, @HornyOnMainThx joking: “This is a tacticals weapon, tell you what take two, put them together, then the heavy can have a HEAVY flamer.” Typical 40K-ones who rarely fail to dissect every darn little detail with the zeal of an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest.
Further than flamers, players are putting out the craziest of wishlists. @daveoreally wanted a whole stealth mission as Raven Guard (which… actually sounds amazing?), whereas @AlmightySky81 was just screaming “COMB-WEAPONS!” into the void. Big conversations concerning which classes got some special cosmetics so far are happening between @DREAMER_REB0RN and @AMX912_.
One of the replies that just stand out is @FalloutLink just yelling “INTO THE FIRES OF BATTLE, UNTO THE ANVIL OF WAR!!!” No context whatsoever. Peak 40K energy right there.
So what is the actual deal with the Pyrecannon? Heavy or not, one thing is sure: Pyrecannon will be yet another massive fire of destruction in Space Marine 2. The sight in the trailer is just so very gratifyingly fun to watch as the flames lay waste to mobs of enemies, and really: when Tyranids come crashing down on you in tide mode, you will care less about specs and more about putting a huge smile on your face while watching everything burn.
Going back further to lore, the start of the mix-up should be a perfect showcase of the untamed passion Warhammer fans have for the lore, as the little confusion spawned some very hilarious debates. Now, this has seriously put players into a frenzy, enraptured in the thought of what other weapons might receive the official heavy flamer-doctoring at all, or at least, I hope. Until then… well, there’s always mods.
Space Marine 2 is shaping up to be one of the most hyped Warhammer games for years; those reactions alone justify that players are ready to just plunge headfirst into the grim darkness of the far future. But hey! Don’t forget to carry heat-resistant armor!
