Focus Entertainment released the full roadmap for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and the anticipation it has generated is palpable. The roadmap extends all the way to 2025, listing new content that includes new classes, weapons, and missions, as well as some cosmetic packs. The new content is worrying as much as it is exciting.
So, what new content has been published that is generating such excitement? Let’s cover it all. In the new Operation 2: Eclipse, scheduled for September, a new class will be introduced. This will be alongside the release of three new weapons on the same day. Furthermore, the enigmatic “REDACTED” class that nobody seems to know anything about has also been announced. Additionally, new missions, new enemy types, and more cosmetic packs for those wanting to fine-tune their Space Marines’ appearance will be added.
Most of the players’ feedback is positive with some mixed opinions on certain features and fixes. From the players, Dr. Shemp “Still no Healer class? Yeesh.” is an important concern. As for this, there’s been an ever-present demand for an Apothecary or healing class ever since the game launched and it seems like it still won’t be coming in the near future.
The players who are looking forward to the game may have JVas, who said “Make a Flesh Tearer pack and I’ll die for Emperor twice!” and ThatKamenRiderGuy shouting “Hype Hype Hype!!!” These are the types of irrational excitement comments the game could use.
The new weapons have gained quite a lot of attention. Spinegrinder117 remarked on “The Xenophase Sword variant of the Powersword tho… 🥵,” which sounds both brutal and amazing. As a result, Patriot459_ also asked: “Does anyone know what the 3 new weapons will be on 9/3? Are they the flame weapons or is it something else??” which is the most asked question.
A notable addition to the conversation is the speculation of new classes. Players have voiced their thoughts of the Grey Knights pertaining to the “REDACTED” class. Alongside the eager thoughts, HoboYags bluntly asked, “Patch 14’s redacted being grey knights right? Right??” and SithKnight0 responded with, “It would be awesome to have warp missions with the Grey Knights.” To which I, as much as others, consider mindblowing if it becomes true.
Connected to the previous remarks, there are speculations about how classes would function in different chapters, with Higgmeister666 highlighting a potential problem: “The main drawback to introducing Apothecary and Chaplain classes to Space Marine 2 is the Wolf Priest, as they perform both roles within the Space Wolves chapter.” That is a nice amount of lore knowledge that not everyone is familiar with.
While there is excitement, there is disappointment as well, Alvord Theron voiced his disappointment: “No Blood Ravens Cosmetic Pack. I’m sad.” And sarcasmyur expressed her displeasure of PvP: “Will you actually give more of a shit about PvP this 2nd year or are you still going to treat it as the red headed step child you have been?” Yikes.
Players are expressing the intention of returning to the game. Thinking in the same direction is Vanrath91 who says, “Guys is it worth returning to this for PvE only? I quit a few weeks after launch after having played every online map 2-3 times.” That is a reasonable question being asked with respect to the new improved content.
The variety in the cosmetic requests is remarkable. Clayton begged, “For the love of Sanguinius please put the angels encarmine chapter in the game” while JKumanchik is all in for, “Raven guard let’s go!” And _BigSur_ gave a more direct suggestion: “Redacted? Make it Retributors.”
There is even some international mix in the responses. SaricDario2 replied to someone in French with “Jvais chialer” which means “I’m going to cry” – probably tears of joy! And, FilipCieslar requested, “Make it available through xbox pc store” which is always welcome news as more is better.
Although, the excitement is more than obvious. KeizerDracone captured the sentiment well: “There’s a LOT to get hyped for here. But new customizations, weapons, and that new class gotta top the list!” And therealfreyman is as loud as ever with, “Yeaaa baby!!! All of it!!” which is, well, relatable and infectious.
Players that care about the game and universe are extremely invested in the little details which is fascinating. Instead of just saying “cool new stuff”, players are having in depth discussions about how Wolf Priests would function if Apothecaries were added, inquiring about specific chapter cosmetics and about weapon types. It’s more than just engagement, it’s a sincere display of care.
It will be supported for a long time as the roadmap shows content planned through Operation 4: Retribution in 2025. Players are going to have a lot of reasons to keep purging xenos for the Emperor as there are new classes, weapons, missions, and cosmetics coming after that.
Whether players are waiting to see the new weapons in September, the mysterious new class, or simply more customization options for Space Marine, they will find a lot in the roadmap. Honestly, my money is on Grey Knights for the “REDACTED” class, but it’s still going to be a wait.
