Preceded by the tweet that basically is: There are more than 4,000 PS4 games compatible with PS5. Quite a bunch. Isn’t it wonderful that the digital library and save data of a user are really considered transferable to the upgrade from PS4 to PS5? It gains a lot of time that any gamer who has ever bothered to accumulate games throughout the years would appreciate. Otherwise, this big lifting will create two different catalogs for themselves.

Now the replies-the replies tell a much different story. There are a whole lot of people celebrating, but obviously not everybody is. The comment section pretty much turned into one gigantic plea list of everything Sony ISN’T doing. Then of course, Sefi chimed in, “Good job! Now do the same with PS3”. That seemed to have been echoed over and over again. Tyrone Biggums basically says, “Give us PS3 and PS2. Nobody cares about PS4 games…” Feel the frustration.

This is a strange situation by which Sony is selling a well-put feature that the community ends up almost ignoring themselves and marching into the next one. The demand for PS3 compatibility is not low. That kind of demand is utterly high. How strange, really, that this is something that doesn’t exist. Silverback Senpai tries to make sense of all this perhaps by speculating that maybe Sony is cooking up some kind of merging all into one app or some sort of emulation solution. But negotiatley, that is purely speculation. Officially, Sony has had no word, only endless “what about PS3?” cries from their players.

And the demand is not just for PS3, of course. Players want PS1 and PS2 support as well. Voidtale9710 has said, “Add ps1 and ps2 ( should add ps3 too but ik y’all won’t )”. That little parenthetical is so telling. It’s almost like the community just accepted that Sony won’t do it, but they’re going to keep asking anyway.

Here come a handful of regional issues bubbling up. A user from Turkey just can’t get proper support. Another of them is begging for regional pricing for Latin America and hashtags #NoAlDolarPSN. So, this problem goes beyond just the ancient games to be concerned about how easy and fair everything is for gamers all over the globe.

Now the technical stuff. One user, Voided__Reality, complains about a UI problem that’s like five years old. They’re talking about when the PS4 disc is used for the PS5 upgrade-two icons appear on the home screen. Seems like a minor nitpick, but when you’re staring at it every single day for years, that could drive anybody insane. Another one is saying Ape Escape 2 is literally unplayable on PS5 and might actually cause seizures. Yikes!

Mixed bag, for sure. One is, 4,000 is an unbelievable number. So that means your entire PS4 library has now found a home on a more powerful console, usually running better and loading faster. This is big, and a genuine selling point of the PS5. But another major feature is the transfer of save data-another one would never want to start from scratch on a 100-hour RPG.

On the other hand… The players are speaking volumes: They want more. They want a whole history factory of PlayStation living on modern hardware. They’re witnessing what Microsoft is doing on Xbox through its backward compatibility program, running old games from original Xbox and Xbox 360 and most often enhancing them, and they want Sony to come heel and slay that other level as well.

Opining forwards is Android Velma talking about PS6, already asking if it will be backward-compatible with PS4 games. This feature is that important to these people. Players think of their game libraries as long-term investments.

Rather big news coming out of this Sony announcement, therefore-a huge feature that really works well on its own. Backward compatibility is not a secondary feature anymore for the vast majority of players,-still-a feature. They want their history saved and the access to those classics they love. Sony has the ball on its side now. Sony nailed PS4 to PS5 transition.

The question from everybody is…what’s next? Would they ever take on what amounts to a technical nightmare of a side quest concerning the Cell processor of PS3 to get those games back? Time goes. In the meantime, shout-out for 4,000 PS4 games ready to roll on PS5-well, knowing very well that a loud portion of the fanbase is waiting for the rest of the catalog.
