The PlayStation 5 console is on its way sometime in 2020. We still have no release date, price, or pre-order information, but Sony remains adamant that this console will hit shelves before the end of the year.
Speaking about the console, SVP of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Eric Lempel spoke glowingly about the slate of games coming for the new device, describing it as the best in the company’s history.
“The content that will be in the launch window and beyond is incredibly exciting,” he said. “I would say that this is the best line-up that we’ve ever seen in the history of PlayStation, between our Worldwide Studios groups and our partners from all the different publishers around the world. We’ve revealed some of the content, and naturally there will be more to come, but the way that the developers can engage with this platform, and create these new experiences with known IP as well as unknown IP is incredibly exciting.”
Several launch titles have already been announced for the console, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Astro’s Playroom. Third party titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Bugsnax will also be available when the console drops.
Other announced titles include Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, a remake of Demon’s Souls, and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.
PlayStation 5 recently released its first promotional commercial, leading to increased speculation about its price, release date, and pre-order information.

Lempel described the current state of the PlayStation 5 as “a massive challenge on every front,” because of restrictions the company is facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The nice thing is that we’re pulling it together,” he said. “We will launch this year – that will happen – and from my end, we will absolutely make sure that we will bring all of the magic and all of the excitement of launches that we have had in the past. We are still committed to doing that. It’s more challenging than ever, but our gamers expect a lot from us. It’s a chance to celebrate the beginning of a new generation.”
With time ticking away toward the holiday season, many believe that it’s just a matter of time before we get some kind of major announcement from Sony regarding the release of what is to be their flagship console for the next several years.
Sony’s chief rival Microsoft has been equally tight lipped about the release of the Xbox Series X, so it will be interesting to see which company makes the announcement first.
