Fortnite went one for the two, this time neither for superheroes nor anime characters. Nope, we’re talking shoes. The Sonic and Shadow shoes are allegedly coming to the item shop soon, and the player responses have definitely been… unique.
The leak surfaced from a very famous leaker @Wensoing; that meant HYPEX shared the leak and it’s almost a confirmation. The tweet read, “SONIC & SHADOW x FORTNITE KICKS — COMING SOON,” which was enough for the Internet to go berserk.
The reply tweets poured in with reactions ranging from excitement, confusion, and a little anger??? Like Simplly Sully TTV screamed, “HOW SOON !?!” which was pretty much my response as well. We all want to know. Then astra said, “Suddenly I am a Fortnite fan,” which is funny because yeah, these crossover items bring out just that very effect in people.
Not everybody seems to be rejoicing, though. Nauelverse dropped a truth bomb: “Fortnite is basically a digital flea market at this point if Sonic and Shadow are selling shoes in-game then nothing is sacred anymore.” And honestly? They’re not really wrong. Fortnite has kind of become this weird junk emporium from which almost everything can be sold, from John Wick to these theoretical hedgehog sneakers.
Some are already begging for full skins, not just shoes. Pika Nyu posted a crying emoji with the words, “Why not the skins… sega whyyyyyy?!!!!” mood. Everybody wants to run around as Sonic himself, not just wear his merch. ThatSonicGuy said, “BRO JUST SHOES L”, probably the funniest and most disappointed reaction there is.
There are also plenty of jokes about how Sonic would look in-game because let’s be honest, he’s tiny. Fishofmanyhonor opined he’d be “very tiny” and “out of place” if stretched to human proportions, which is fair. Jake from Adventure Time worked because he can stretch; Sonic? Not so much.
Then there’s Daneh’s random Portuguese tweet, “Tá de sacanagem,” which translates to “You’re kidding me”—again, saying it all.
But many players are genuinely excited despite the skepticism. ShockingChaos: “Let’s fucking go, years ago you wouldn’t even think about this.” And that is true! It’s insane to think about a collaboration between Sega and Fortnite even few years back. And v464758 stated, “Probably the only time I spend on shoes in fortnite,” meaning even those who don’t usually care about cosmetics might pick this one up.
A few are already thinking about their children. Like, reremims_ said, “Ima get them just for my son,” which is honestly adorable.
Now, THEgiANTquestion on everyone’s lips… WHEN?! “COMING SOON” is really, really vague and irritating as hell. And are THESE JUST shoes, or could have we more Sonic cosmetics along the way? Celeste Heron tried to bring some clarity on this by stating: “as of now we only know about these cosmetics that have brand that will be added to Fortnite, but it doesn’t mean that there won’t be other cosmetic that will be added when these come out,” so maybe full skins are just around the corner.
This is yet another big indication of how crossovers are claimed by Fortnite. From Marvel to Star Wars to now… Sonic shoes. Craziness. So if you love, great; if you hate, great; either way, it brings up good conversation.
The hype is real, and memes are already flooding in. From Sonic running gifs to people screaming in all caps, the community got it. This is what Epic Games does best – creating hype around something for every person, even if it is just a pair of virtual sneakers.
Keep your eyes peeled on the item shop because those Sonic and Shadow kicks are coming soon. The reactions alone will probably send these to their graves on sales, though some think that they are ugly lol.
