You’re chilling in Skyrim, maybe shimming some coins from a poor innkeeper’s collection of sweetrolls, when suddenly—dragonslayer that you are—your path is interrupted by a bandit. Bandits interrupting you isn’t a big deal. It is a big deal when you get interrupted by a bandit and, at the same time, your pet decides to turn into a four-legged John Wick.
This clip is instantly recognizable for a number of reasons, but the one that stands out the most is the dog’s full-on feral and beast mode activated anti-tycoon performance. This happened recently on rSkyrim, when a user called u/TheColdestKingCold posted a really exciting moment in which his character was getting ripped apart by an enemy, and the ‘It’s game over’ vibe was fully unleashed. Out of nowhere, this dog just went absolutely feral on the attacker.
Out of nowhere this dog just started going feral on the attacker. Out of the blue, this dog went absolutely feral on the attacker. Out of the blue this dog went absolutely feral on the attacker. On Reddit, a user named u/TheColdestKingCold posted a very thrilling video where his character got crushed by an enemy, and the character had that ‘It’s game over’ fully unleashed. And just like that, out of nowhere this dog went absolutely feral on the attacker.
Skyrim has amassed a treasure trove of classic moments in less than two decades, and this is the type of moment I cherish—the game offers a window into chaos. You’re drowning in despair, and suddenly your best friend appears from nowhere, throwing paws and throwing a lifeline into the fray.
Wait a minute. Some users are saying it’s a fox instead? TheIliahCode just stated, “It’s a fox.” I’ve lost count. I’m not good at identifying wildlife in Skyrim. It might very well be a dog, a fox, or even a werewolf in disguise—regardless, I know the dog is a good boy no matter its species.
The comments section is just as amusing! It’s heartwarming to see everyone hail this doggo hero. “Dogs are truly man’s best friend 🥰,” said Yuriken02—and responds with the truth. Then, @aryangupta1411 witnesses it and says, “Bro, that dog’s the real MVP; someone get it a treat and a hero’s cape already!” I concur. The dog deserves all the sweetrolls in Skyrim.
One of my favorite remarks definitely comes from Defrostabytamor, who comments “it’s not realistic as I have never seen an npc so humane towards animals @bethesda yall hiring?” which is ridiculously accurate. When’s the last time NPCs in Bethesda games have this kind of compassion to other beings? Normally, they are trying to annihilate everything that moves, which includes chickens for some bizarre reason.
Then you get the typical Skyrim user comment from RosaPercTheFien, who just says “Fuck it, modded playthrough this weekend!” because these clips always get the same response… the desire to start playing Skyrim, even though you know you have done the same exact thing a hundred times.
Oh lord, the clip really shows every one of the aspects that make skyrim so exceptional. The random emergent storytelling, the unscripted pop-out-of-nowhere moments of genius, and the release of deeply felt unplanned scenarios rather than half of the dull quests in the game. These are also the reasons the game, even after so many years, still have a player base and the attention. It is timeless.
Also, can we not ignore the fact that the inferior could not land a hit on the dog? GAM3Sgg_ brought up the comment “NPC can’t hit the dog 😂” which is, like, classic Bethesda AI. The dog is doing matrix moves while the bandit is swinging at thin air.
And of course, 333blacksea said “Trained by John Wick,” which is, like, spot on. That dog had serious assassin training. It probably has a hidden skill tree that we don’t know about.
The beauty of Skyrim is the magic it has, which is kept alive by these types of interactions. The fans don’t care about the dragons or the main questline; they care about the random, sometimes tender, hilarious, and organic interactions the game gives. The game turns these interactions into little, personalized stories for all the players.
The dog was not scripted to become a hero; this was the developers’ oversight. The game’s systems, such as the AI, combat, and companion behavior, perfectly meshed, and the person who captured the moment happened to share it.
Everyone is Skyrim now, maybe looking for their heroic pet or for some other idiotic thing the game tosses at them. Because with Skyrim, you never know what to expect.
This dog becoming a hero is only one of the reasons how, after all these years, a game like this continues to surprise us. There might be a glitch that sends a giant flying into space, a dog that chooses to be your bodyguard, and there are always new discoveries to be made. Rediscovery is the perfect term because this has happened to us a hundred times over. Yes, that is the magic.
In case you are wondering, you do not need a reason to start playing Skyrim. You might have, for a change, a heroic living animal companion, and just in case, you will need some recording software because without proof, you will not convince anyone.
