Get ready because September 2025 is going to hurt your pockets worse than the final boss you never managed to defeat. Not only do we have new sequels, but we also have entirely new games that are the center of attention. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s all I have in store for you. To begin with, NBA 2K26 and Cronos: The New Dawn drop on the 5th, preceded by Hollow Knight: Silksong on the 4th. Then on the 12th, we get to enjoy Borderlands 4, followed by Dying Light: The Beast on the 19th. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and Silent Hill F both drop on the 25th and we end the month with EA FC 26 coming out on the 26th. That’s a load to process in one go.
A user mentioned that this is Christmas for gamers this year, and I believe it. The hype is immense, and everyone is questioning which game they should forgo renting. Jokes about needing to sell a kidney to afford this crazy lineup are also flying around. Allow me to add my perspective—having a job is a curse for times like this when there’s so much demand to indulge in.
Let’s talk about the highlights. Silksong is the follow-up to the original hollow knight. It is one of the most anticipated games and I am sure it does not need an introduction. The expected art looks stunning, and the fans of the original game are greatly looking forward to the release date. Then we have Borderlands 4, which I have had my sights on for a while. It is a nice surprise to see one of my favorite childhood games continue, giving more memories to a wide audience. I would say that the excitement for Dying Light: The Beast is justified as well. I have seen comments stating that people literally cannot wait for it.
There is a lack of excitement for the rest of the games, though. The rest, including the NBA 2K series, have not been received well, with several comments calling the rest of the series rubbish and saying they will pass on the series. This is in line with the infamous “pass” of the yearly cycle for the series. In one comment, a person stated that they are only playing NBA 2K26 then “going back to sleep” and also called the rest of the list “mid garbage.” While this is going on with the 2K series, I have also seen comments with strong opinions for EA FC 26, one saying it is their best to date and another saying it is the only game they are excited for.
Silent Hill F, the title which releases on the 25th, is the one with the most buzz surrounding it. With some users commenting that it looks good along with the Cronos title. For those looking for some non-strenuous titles, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds might be an entertaining multiplayer. And one more time, that was many titles, right?
As I said earlier, people have been talking about games like Slime Rancher 2, Skate, and Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remake, which is speculated to be coming on the 19th. So the list could be way bigger than what was shown. And yes, people that are looking for GTAV are still arguing about it as they were five years ago.
The community is divided between being absolutely excited and experiencing wallet anxiety at the same time. More people have called the lineup stacked and have said we’re eating good this month, while others are already grieving about their bank accounts. The tone for most of the responses has been conflicting, with one reply stating, “September = no money, no sleep, just games,” and the other saying, “It’s a gamers’ wallet nightmare.” Despite the financial pain, most are genuinely excited about the lineup.
More evidence of the classic gamer mindset can be found in the replies, with one person noting that half of everyone will still be playing GTA 5 like it just dropped yesterday. Because at the end of the day, no matter how many new games come out, some people just cling to their old favorites.
Mobile gamers do have some of the spotlight too, with a user asking if any of the games are coming to mobile. Judging from the scope of some of these games, it doesn’t seem like it unless they are some variant of cloud games.
After September 2025, people will still be reminiscing the gaming world for months for one of those glorious months. No matter if you’re a fan of racing, action RPGs, sports, horror, or even battling dress-up games, a bunch of genres will be catered. The only problem is deciding which game you begin with and how you manage to shell out the money. But when you have ramen noodles and payment plans, who cares about money? For the gamers, it will be a very expensive, a little bit delightful month.
