With the much anticipated launch of Sea of Thieves Season 16 and with the entire community enjoying the new features, Rare, the developers of the Pirate-Adventure game, asked players what favorite feature in the game received something new. The bizarre answers ranged from skeleton helpers to cannons that explode.
To sum it all up: skeleton crewmates. Yes. A player can now unearth these bony friends to assist in quests and forts. As Brandon Tansey beautifully put it, “It’s just really nice to have a hand with certain things.” Definitely. Trying to complete all parts of a fort by yourself, or digging treasure on a large island, can be pure hell; having a bony pal lend a hand (literally) really changes the dynamic of the game. MrJannusSot and LaikaIvanova agreed on how much easier it is to do quests on big islands with the help of skeleton oafs-wait, do we really have to call them oafs? BowtieShyGuy did jokingly comment about the “internship” skeletons helping him solve treasure maps. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
The rest of the things make it… Cannons of Rage bring in…rage and laughter! SwordSandwich confessed about raging moments while boarding and blowing up enemy ships, while DoomOfSarnath remarked, “Fun times.” ToxicHelix gave it a thumbs-up as well, calling it “kinda cool.” Let me tell you, that’s a huge compliment coming from a pirate who has probably seen it all.
Beauty was found in the Reaper cosmetics. LysanderVT_ fired a move on the wishlist asking for more faction cosmetics, especially for the Bilge Rats. And honestly, we are on board for that. More drip for pirates is always an achievement. J and the Requiem Tomb mentioned how they were stoked to finally get their Reaper masks because looking scary while looting is just good business.
Others, eh? Not so much. Gaming_4nj4 thought the new commendation grade for the Chest of Fortune might be an instant quit from new players. AlmightFlorb? They just outright said that they weren’t going to be playing. Ouch. While DonJohn_90 was on the wildfire suggestion: third-person camera view. Would it be cool? Possibly. Would it happen? Probably not. But hey, you gotta try.
And so came the memes. Thornbush42 kept it simple with “The one with the booms.” MutinousMel simply dropped a heart emoji alongside a link- mysterious vibe, indeed. CappCabbage and BowtieShyGuy proceeded to engage in a back-and-forth debate on the whole island map concept as “big green circles.” Fair, seeing as a couple of those islands might really do with a redesign.
Well, where do we stand, then? Season 16, a bit of chaos, convenience, and yet some cosmetics. May it be skeleton minions, explosive cannons, or just looking fly in Reaper gear, it has got to be for all of us. With theories already brewing from the players about what comes next (more faction cosmetics, please), Sea of Thieves is nowhere near empty.
