Rare has just provided an update for any pirates out there in Sea of Thieves Season 17 Community Weekend. There was a community challenge to complete 100,000 World Events. The challenge was a smashing success, and the community earned the Ruby Legend Figurehead as a reward. Everyone can now get the Ruby Legend Figurehead. Sea of Thieves community events always attract a lot of attention, and as usual, people are worried that some members miss out on the rewards.
Sea of Thieves’s official Twitter tweeted that the figurehead can be collected from the Ship Customisation Chest. Honestly, it actually does look good. Earlier today, Oedipais uploaded a picture of it waving in the game, and Spovid commented that its design reminds him of the Rare 35 and SOT 5 figureheads but with a superior colour scheme. Like all other flaming Legend Fig figureheads, this new design is extremely awesome, and the ship gets an increased morale bonus. As _milh0use explained, if you took part in the event, the figurehead is already in your inventory; no need to visit the shipwright. Simply open your chest, and the figurehead will be there to make your ship look extra legendary.
Now we’ve entered the stage where everything seems to be going wrong. At this point, quite a lot of people still do not have it, and with the number of comments requesting assistance growing, there doesn’t seem to be a solution. SharonArmen76 mentions that she never received the figurehead despite playing all weekend in Eastern Time and would like some help. On the other hand, Tony is asking, without beating around the bush, if other people actually had to complete a World Event to earn the figurehead as opposed to simply logging on and sailing. Personally, I think Tony is asking the question that needs to be asked, and there is a definite lack of clarity from the other side. Rare, of course, is to blame. Sunshine stated, “Rare is to blame,” and I fully agree with it. Rare’s communication has been subpar, which is the root cause of this issue.
Kaelon brought up an appropriate point that if the reward conditions required merely sailing or logging on, everyone who did so would get the reward. However, only the people doing the World Event get the reward which, for a community goal, sounds reasonable. What doesn’t make sense to me, if my assumption is true, is that it was never communicated. When asked about this kind of stuff, ItemsENABLED said they did not track World Events in their playtime which is definitely an oof moment. Kokokatten also brought up the fact that Rare’s silence on reward drops is an unnecessary stress to lower-tier players, which in this case, I think, is true. Nobody likes working for hours for something and constantly wondering if they missed a reward.
Even though the figurehead is the central issue at the moment, there are still many other issues the community is concerned about. DeWayne738832 inquires about the Voyages of Luck that have yet to be delivered into our accounts via Twitch drop. This clearly shows there are general delivery issues. Aaron32122418 has gone off-topic in ship combat, claiming that the enemies are too hard for new players, and in his opinion, is that the enemies are too hard to heal after a cannon hit. This sparked an entirely different conversation with Tvee___, where crew dynamics and strategies to perfect storm getaways were discussed. Sure, I’d like to hear about the figurehead update, but naval combat needs to be fixed.
In summary, this is just how the Sea of Thieves community behaves, where everyone shows up ready to celebrate but there is still confusion and chaos. For the Sea of Thieves players who completed the community challenge, the Ruby Legend Figurehead is a nice reward. It is nice of Rare to reward the community. It is a bit of a shame that the communication was poor with regards to the criteria for receiving the item. If the community challenge was what you took part in, open your ship chest and place that shiny new bling onto your ship. If you did not participate, do not worry as a new community challenge is coming soon. I think players should watch out for pirate announcement because of this last terrible communication from Rare, as I think they will improve for this ‘next’ haul. As always, congrats to everyone who claimed their loot, and hopefully by then, there will be many more amazing weekends to be had on the high seas. Cheers!
