The official Sea of Thieves Twitter account shared a cryptic picture of this neon blue coral staff resting on a beach with debris scattered all over. They ask the internet, “Whats this called? Wrong answers only.” Oh my, the answer did NOT disappoint. This chaos is what truly makes game communities great-the creative chaos coming together in harmony.
Okay, so before we start all the madness: the boring stuff. It is indeed the Trident of Dark Tides of Sea of Thieves. It is a weapon that you can find that shoots bubbles that explode. Pretty cool right? Who really cares about its actual name in the replies? Much more fun coming up with profoundly ridiculous and hilarious names.
The one voted the most voted wrong answer was: Disney Stick, and so many people called it that. Justmy2cents said, “Me and my buddies call it the Disney stick.” Deathdarkrider said, “My crew called it the Disney Bubble Staff.” And then Nobel was kind of like, “Disney stick! Bubble wand!” How apt, really, with the colorful, almost cartoonish style that screams Pixar-y vibes. Shiff_SoT said, “Looks like a pixar stick.” So yeah, definitely a Disney association going on here.
But from there, it never really stopped. Oh no. We also got ‘The bubble buster’ from Decoy_NDA. ‘Megalodon tooth pick, gotta get them planks of wood out’ from golthren, which I love because it is just so specific and weird. ‘The stick of truth’ from Z0rg88 is a pretty deep South Park reference that probably went over a few heads. ‘Pitch fork of Poseidon’ from srorigin_3 sounds far more epic than it actually is. And probably my favorite, right, is ‘The shiny glowy boom stick’ from LordXylum, because that’s basically what it is.
Going pretty international, gvipjones showed us a ‘baguette magique,’ meaning ‘magic baguette,’ while saigyou_ayakash went with a ‘French baguette.’ So evidently, some people think this immensely powerful mystical artifact also resembles bread. Never change, internet.
There gotta be some salty remarks in any Sea of Thieves thread. Bnana_J0 named it the “Arena Victory Stick” followed by a lament, “oh no the only fun mode has been removed”. This sparked a mini-discussion with PandasDiary530 agreeing, “Accurate, instead we have heists where we take paintings off walls, oooo amazing,” and EddieThe_Bear went after the “arena copers” telling them they ‘really need something else to do with your lives.’ The drama! It’s all there.
Some other gems include ‘STAFF OF EXPLOSION BUBBLE’ by DemonQAurora, ‘Pointy mermaid stick’ from faithsykes123, and ‘One bubble wand dipped and ready to go’ from SPADOMUR. Le_J0kix went meta with ‘A stick to fix bugs and ban cheaters.’ A noble wish, my friend. A noble wish.
Then we got Diego Coelho’s almost damn-poetic direct description: “A blue-and-green staff, seemingly made of coral with a gem set into it, lies on a beach, surrounded by debris.” Wow. Way to go with the “wrong answers only” thing, Diego. Totally missed the point but gave us some lovely prose anyway.
And moments like these really remind you just how important player engagement really is for a live service game such as Sea of Thieves. The devs will post a really simple fun question, then the community just goes wild with it, turning it into a full-blown mini-event, and building that connection. You know? So it’s not just patching the game, or new content, it’s those tiny interactions that make players feel in on the joke.
Whereas the rest of us were busy whipping up “wrong” names, McChickeney was on a totally different mission: continuing “Day 735 of asking Sea of Thieves to add full Fallen Sea Dog set”. Respect for the grind, if a bit off-topic.
So what is the lesson here? The Sea of Thieves community is crazy – creative, humorous, and insane in the best way. They take a simple question about an in-game item and turn it into comedy gold and harmless bitching about canceled modes. So much beautiful chaos. And right there is proof that wrong answers are sometimes way more enjoyable than the right ones. So maybe next time that Trident of Dark Tides comes up, think Disney Bubble Buster Magic Baguette. Because… why not?
