Nostalgia has been a big part of the current console generation, as beloved video game characters from the past — Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sir Dan — have been revived via remakes, and as you’d probably expect, all of their comebacks were considered to be a gigantic success.

Earlier this year, much to the chagrin of many, it was revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog was heading to the big screen. Of course, the beloved Sega legend’s look was the subject of a lot of criticism, so much so that his appearance was completely changed recently.

However, the negative feeling surrounding the upcoming Sonic film isn’t making Sony shy away from doing a movie that’s also based on one of their legendary characters, as an animated Crash Bandicoot is rumored to be in the works.

According to We Got This Covered, a Crash Bandicoot movie is in the early stages of development at Sony, and it’ll be based on the story in the games. So, if the movie does get made, you can expect to see Crash try to defeat Dr. Neo Cortex once again.

Earlier this year, WGTC reported on two rumors — Bill Murray’s return in Ghostbusters 3 and that an Aladdin sequel was in development — both of which turned out to be true. Also according to the publication, the source who provided the aforementioned information is the same person who is telling them about the Crash Bandicoot movie. So, while this should be taken with a grain of salt, at least the source has a good track record.

As previously mentioned, the movie is in the very early stages of its development, so it’ll probably be a while before we see or hear anything about it. Also, unlike the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, the Crash Bandicoot movie will be an animated film.

Due to the success of the Crash Bandicoot N’Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, it’s also realistic to expect that Activision is developing a fourth main installment in the franchise. As for when that’ll be announced, well, it could be revealed sometime next year, before Sony and Xbox move to their next generation of consoles.

For now, Activision is constantly updating the Crash Team Racing remake, as every month brings new challenges and items via the game’s Grand Prix mode. The publishers are also adding new characters from other games like Spyro the Dragon, who was added to the game back in August.
