Rockstar Games certainly dropped a colossal shot of Red Dead Online goodies for anyone chomping to get their fix before October 6, and the community reaction was… well… let us say complicated. The company’s tweet announced 3X RDO$ and XP from Collector Free Roam Events and 4X RDO$ and XP from the Featured Series. Sounds good enough, right? While scrolling through the replies, one suddenly realizes that players are interested in some other things altogether.
The comments are overwhelmingly filled with people wondering where the next-gen update is, a forth sign that it has not surfaced yet. User borushiki2025 said, “Would make the most out of this month if the next gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 dropped. Just sayin’,” and I feel the same way. That was repeated by quite a few players, including JumpnJehosafat, who demanded, “Where is the series x / ps5 update???” and was followed by an endless stream of facepalm emojis. The frustration is palpable, palpable, and very, very much so.
And then carlos_gtzs sums it all up with “why they keep insisting in f ing rdr online events instead of giving info about the next gen update ðŸ˜.” Like wait, what was I even saying? Oh right, the bonuses are cool and all but players are really hungry for something much more than just temporary multipliers.
This entire situation made me pause a little, seeing as how Red Dead Online has been kind of stagnant while everybody waits for… something. Anything, really. josephsherlock0 commented “I hate how online is kinda dead such wasted potential,” which really hits differently considering RDO promised much but it feels like Rockstar’s attention is somewhere else. Most probably working on that little game called GTA 6 that everybody is not shutting up about in the replies.
Speaking of which: GtA6 mentions everywhere. “Still waiting GTA 6” by nzggh84090 and meanwhile kerimbayramolu8 is using hashtags such as #wewantgta6inturkish. It is almost as if no matter what Rockstar posts about they just get pulled back into talking about the next big project. Can’t blame them for being interested, though.
These replies are pure stand-up comedy worth the watch on repeat. The Pottonics responded to the “Red Dead Roam Events” mention with “SUSPICIOUS!” along with a GIF of somebody looking very untrusting, while WastedPenguin and OGCyclophile continued questioning variations of “People still play this?” which, ouch. But SwagMizer was completely almost in disbelief: “Holy shit these servers are still active”. That almost solved the question.
Then another thing separate is the clothing requests. QuacksLxgic pleaded, “you guys should like bring back the morales vest and stop doing bullshit limited clothing releases,” surely wondering about all the cosmetic clothes coming and going all these years. And bobbyblaze_ demands, “we want UNDEAD NIGHTMARE 2 and a new MIDNIGHT CLUB game in Japan,” so okay, dream big I guess.
What’s interesting, though, is how severely split the community is on the question of what it really wants. Some players are begging for that next-gen patch, others want new story content like Undead Nightmare 2, and then there’s Shan3_LTD, complaining, “how about a real update i have almost a billion in game and no real new updates” which… a billion? Teach me your ways please.
It just gets spicy. christsavesm3 and a couple other people were going at it debating whether 60fps mattered that much, with people counter arguing that RDR2 “still holds up” no matter what frame rate it’s at. Meanwhile, angel54697054 just wants a “PS5 Pro version please,” kind of funny in a tragic sense since here we are not even blessed with a simple current-gen update yet.
And then there is the totally humorous GTA 4 remake requests from CaioSousa62 and Arabic language requests from v09fi. It’s basically like Rockstar’s tweet turned into the suggestion box where everyone screams into the void.
So, the bonuses will last till the 6th if you want to hop in and grind your way through the cash and XP. 3X on Collector events would be a hell of a lot if you are still building your character up. But upon going through these replies, what is crystal clear is that the players want that small glimmer of hope that Red Dead Online hasn’t actually been laid to rest. That next-gen update would be a big step towards reassuring everyone that there’s still life left in this open-world cowboy setting.
The whole ordeal sort of brings me back to some games getting stuck in limbo, where developers keep putting out small, scattered events while the community waits for the grand updates that seem to never quite come. So, fingers crossed Rockstar has something super substantial brewing up behind these temporary bonuses. Until then, happy hunting for those triple rewards.
