Through its social media channels, Rockstar Games has via social media caused the already chaotic and passionate community of the GTA Online game to react as usual. To put it in a few words: Those players who accomplished the three New Listings Missions before the 7th of December were rewarded with a $2,000,000 GTA$ discount on the new Luxury mansions selected by the players, which was a small part of the cake that was intended to be cut on January 7th when the promotion would disappear completely. The most-played online game is having fun reacting, in a mix of rush and lament, to the expensive grind, while others are still shouting about their wish for GTA 6. Classic.
At first, the tweet from Rockstar was just a reminder. Last Call for the few who received that mansion voucher. The responses are almost like a mini-documentary illustrating the current state of the GTA Online gamers. You have your hustlers, critics, and very impatient fans waiting for the next big thing.
Let’s touch on the practical side at the beginning. Some gamers have their issues completely under control. One player, Geoff, was so pumped up and said he had put around 15 million into the most luxurious mansion and he even called it a nice price cut. Another player, Nanoooooo, proudly shared that he had just bought a Richman mansion and he is already saving for a Vinewood one. This is the kind of people who are living the best virtual life, you know? But then there is the other side of the coin. User EJ_004_ highlighted a frequent user criticism: ‘Even after the discount, I can’t buy the mansion.’ And Richard (PTP podcast) was also stating ‘I’m working on it but have only got 4M so far.’ It simply points to the never-ending the struggle in the game online: even with the inexpensive option, the digital palaces are still pretty pricy.
This triggered a whole grinding debate. User MadVincent666 appeared to be complaining about the price and he was immediately bombarded with replies asking him basically to improve his game. King Schmidy said, ‘You only needed to do each of the 3 missions once and they took 7 minutes each. I swear this fanbase can’t do anything but complain.’ Another player, Conkerini, recommended doing continuous Cayo Perico heists, saying it’s ‘not hard at all.’ And Dark the Gamer went as far as revealing that he has billions of dollars saved and calling people lazy for not having the money. It’s been a constant conflict among gamers – the grinders versus the… well, the not-grinders.
Because all this chatter about mansions has one continuous, noisy chorus underneath it all: ‘WHERE IS GTA 6?!’ It’s like a stuck record, but you can’t really blame them. Comments like ‘We want GTA 6’ from Mr Raul Bautista, ‘Idc post gta 6’ from InsanityLol, and very straightforward ‘Nobody fking cares. Bring us GTA6’ from Benny’s Adventures just kept coming. One user, BlackBankroll, even mentioned that they hadn’t participated in any mission because they are ‘waiting for gta6 news.’ It’s a hard reminder that for a large section of the community, game updates that are already 10 years old, no matter how shiny they are, are just forbearers until the main event.
Then the seasonal drama! A surprisingly large number of responses were about snow. Or the lack of it. Players are actually asking for the snow cover in Los Santos during the Christmas season to come sooner and last longer. ‘Gta snow before 23rd pls,’ bepis made a polite request. Bradley J. Simmons asked, ‘Can we get snow for a longer period please?’ Ariel Henrique wrote a long rant of frustration saying this is the last Christmas before GTA VI and getting only a week of snow is like a slap in the face especially if you have family things during the holidays. GnomeK just commented, ‘don’t care, enable snow and leave it on until the new year.’ It’s quite funny how something as mundane as weather can have such a huge influence on the entire gaming experience.
A few other random gems were found as well. A player was curious about the fate of his extra 500k from a Cluckin’ Bell mission. Another one was hoping that the mansion shirt would be produced in real life. Trevor Philips (hopefully not the real insane person) mentioned that he would like a mansion in Sandy Shores which is… a choice. And TheAstroBug perfectly expressed the Rockstar’s promotional vibe, ‘I love when R imposes a limit on these kinds of discounts, it’s like, “Here’s something fun, also fk you.”’
So what is the takeaway from this entire digital yelling? The community’s passion is clear, whether they are focused on the current game updates or looking ahead to future releases on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
