Weekly updates in GTA Online from Rockstar Games, aren’t they wonderful? And ever so good-this week has apparently been really crazy for Neighborhood Watch. 2X GTA$ and RP are being offered for Dispatch Work: responding to police-type calls and chasing down suspects. But if you happen to be a GTA+ member? 4X rewards are yours-wild, actually.

And finally, there was the real kicker: finishing three Dispatch Work jobs will grant the player the Winter LSPD Officer outfit with tie as well as a GTA$100,000 cash reward. Not so bad for just a couple of minutes, I would say. The outfit itself is fabulously slick and looks like it hails from some winter police drama.

Except… wait, what was I saying again? Players, that’s right. Oh, man-shaped fruit, the replies to Rockstar’s tweet. Apparently 90% of the people aren’t even concerned with the event anymore. All they want is GTA 6. Really badly.

One dude just says, “Give fast GTA 6” with a crying emoji. Another one is saying “Kill GTA5 already and starts marketing GTA6”, which seems a little harsh but I get the sentiment. There’s even this guy begging, “Please release gta 6 before WW3.” I mean… mood, honestly.

Among all those GTA 6 demands, there are some people genuinely excited about the event. One guy named henrysammarfo said, “Perfect timing! I’ve been saving up for a new car and this double money will help.” Another one commented, “Great week to grind 💯 Make Millions this week grind don’t stop,” which is that classic GTA Online mindset.

But let’s talk about the technical side as well. Many players claim to have finished all three Dispatch missions but never got the Winter LSPD outfit. Shaher Mia: “I just did three Dispatch Work but it didn’t unlock the Winter LSPD Officer with Tie Outfit.” Victoria: “Do you get it instantly, or do you have to wait?” Some players said it showed up after restarting the game, but others still couldn’t get it to work.

And now, for the fashion police: the complaints about the actual police uniform continue. “Why doesn’t it have a simple gun belt? Bruh,” says one. The other responds, “At least un blacklist the original police uniform this one is shit.” Meanwhile, someone’s upset because the hat doesn’t let them save it as a custom outfit.

It’s a strange middle ground with some people engaging with the present content and the rest screaming into the void that is GTA 6. An entire off-topic side discussion goes on in the replies about whether you have to purchase the forest patrol vehicle to be able to get some other police uniform, with someone practically bitching about spending “a paltry 4 million” when they’re a billionaire in-game.

This is really interesting because this weekly event lets us see how Rockstar is trying to keep GTA Online fresh while waiting for the next big thing. They’re fretting over new content, new outfits, new ways to make money… but the player base is growing ever more restless. I mean, it’s been what, over ten years since GTA 5 dropped? And the online element still gets updates. That’s pretty impressive when you think about it.

But yeah, the general vibe in the comments is basically “Cool event but where’s GTA 6 though?” There is someone even asking about trailer 3, and another person is demanding pre-orders. The Spanish comment that says “Tengo que decir algo querido Rockstar: QUEREMOS PRE VENTA!!!” translates to “I have to say something dear Rockstar: WE WANT PRE-ORDER!!!”

It’ll be a never-ending tug-of-war between appreciating what we have now and desperately wanting what’s coming next. The Dispatch missions themselves are actually pretty fun-quick, pay well because of the bonuses, and the police theme is always well-liked in GTA. But man, the shadow of GTA 6 is simply hanging over everything Rockstar does now.

But some of the players are already filthy rich- somebody’s 3.5 million up already combining Dispatch Work with bounty hunting on steroids. One of the best things about GTA Online: if you know where to grind during the weekly events, the money will be there.

So if you’re still actively playing GTA Online, Neighborhood Watch is definitely one to check out this week. Double money (quadruple for GTA+ subscribers) on Dispatch Work is great. The outfit is cool if it unlocks for you, and the 100K bonus is some sweet pocket money. Just stay away from the Twitter replies if you’re trying to see this game’s positive side.

This is so impressive that Rockstar is running support for a 10-year-old game, introducing new content weekly, which almost no other developer could stick with. But the mental weight of the player community has clearly shifted onto whatever the next big thing is. The Dispatch missions are cool and all, but sure enough, everybody really wants that next big thing to drop.
