For anyone still grinding it out in Los Santos, Rockstar reminded players about the GTA Online End of Summer Giveaway. This one-time GTA$1,000,000 bonus may be claimed until the 17th of September in case you never opted for the GTA Online log-in, and everybody who subscribes to GTA+ will get another GTA$1,000,000 after that, amounting to GTA$2 Million total. Let’s be real for a second; you can almost buy a lot of fancy vehicles, maybe a few oppressor mk2s with that amount.

The thing is, while Rockstar is trying to push this summer cash splash, the reaction to it in the comments are miles apart. The section became almost like: announcement of the giveaway followed by a resonating chorus of “cool, but where’s GTA 6 though?” Comments among themselves are split between hypes for papa-free money and wails for any crumb of Grand Theft Auto news.

One player said, “I don’t need this giveaway — I will grind it out,” possibly acting super devoted or trying to appear hard online. A Gif was broadcast in reply to that same tweet, reading “This is no GTA6,” which is what many people feel right now. It’s almost like the whole free money is great vibe against this major internal itch for something new for ten years of GTA V.

Then there was a bit of a hullabaloo with regard to Lucia Caminos, the actress who plays one of the protagonists in GTA 6. Some spectators said that she stands to reactivate her Instagram account, and thus the speculation over what this must mean for that game had begun. An active social media account is a guaranteed sign of a game launch coming any time now! The gamers are really connecting dots that don’t even exist!

Then came some comments from players asking for an Arabic language option for the official Rockstar website, with hashtags like #weneedrockstargamesinarabi exploding. Interesting is the trend of how the community is using this space to voice their needs for things beyond merely the game. Like, they are not just asking for more content but accessibility and representation, which is pretty cool.

Fortune Capital then dropped that classic “GTA5 had so much hacker” line, and because let’s be honest here: The modder situation in GTA Online is… quite something. You cannot have a discourse on this game without somebody bringing histories of modder antics in the public lobbies. It just is now– it’s a part of the experience.

Then Towering Capital made the classic statement: “GTA5 had so many hacker.” And really, he knows what he’s talking about, at least a bit: the modder situation of GTA Online is… well, it is something. You can’t talk about this game without somebody bringing up the modder anarchy happening in public lobbies. It has become an intrinsic part of the experience.

And the bigger joke is in how soon most people are looking past this award. A user by the name of EfeCal07 noted that “September 17 is a specific date,” which, of course, only sparked more speculation as to whether that date also has a meaning in regard to GTA 6. And another player known as RealKingBeezy bluntly stated “Gta 6 news..” as if right now is the best time to demand an update.

It’s really funny because Rockstar is trying to put in a good word for the GTA Online GTA cash bonus, but the community cannot get over what follows and are a bit dismissive as they respond. Like, “thanks for the money, but can we please get some info on the new game?” A member even mentioned waiting for a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Edition, which goes to show how wide-ranging the requests are.

At the end of the day, this giveaway is a nice gesture from Rockstar to hold their players onto GTA Online for a little longer while summer winds down. Plenty of money can buy that new property or vehicle you have been looking at, and for new players, it’s a welcome boost. But that is the moment when Rockstar has made it clear that the player base is ready for the next chapter. The hype for GTA 6 is real, and no amount of cash inside the world is filling that void.

And now, if you haven’t gotten yourself that GTA Online bonus yet, go grab it before September 17! Free money, and, oh! But don’t expect the community to begin shutting up anytime soon about GTA 6. That train left the station, and it’s not stopping until we get some real news. Until then, enjoy the chaos that happens in Los Santos and try not to get blown up by jets whilst collecting cash.
