Following the release of new content for GTA Online subscribers, with one player stating that all his thoughts are on what lies ahead, the developers announced that GTA+ subscribers would be able to claim a free Law Enforcement Vehicle: the Canis Terminus Patrol-a vehicle rugged and ready for action. However, GTA: Vice City – The Definitive Edition has debuted in the Games Library for iOS and Android users, alongside bonuses for Dispatch Work this week.
So what is the situation? Basically, the community cried out in one voice, “WHERE IS GTA 6???”
The moment the tweet was sent, the replies became the wishlist for the next game. MR_OLLS went on a tangent with his request: “Please GTA 6 at 60 bucks !!! maximum 70!” That seems to be a fair request these days. TheMichael314 had much to say as well: “The only game that matters at this point is #GrandTheftAuto6 #GTA6. SHOW us Grand Theft Auto VI player perspective gameplay.”
And that just never really stopped. Most of the comments were just variations on “I can’t wait for GTA6” and “I can’t wait for another post about GTA6.” I can’t imagine Rockstar even having an official public announcement that they would be physically dropping gold bars in GTA online, and the crowd would still be asking for GTA VI.
There was a little bit of confusion about the criticisms from certain quarters from the GTA+ subscription. For instance, user mjburc13 questioned, “How is it free if you are paying a subscription to claim it?” Which, alright, colloquially, free means it’s a part of your monthly fee; just not free free. Just like, you know when your gym says you get free towels but you’re paying your whole $50 a month for the gym?
A few other requests started coming up, along with a patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 in 60fps from some players, others for GTA IV remaster (yeah, same); better support for Latin selections in upcoming GTA VI even! Wherever else they would like to have Rockstar involved, that leaves the community itself infinitely divided.
Alright, so the addition of Vice City – The Definitive Edition onto mobile is nice and all, but let’s be honest-ever since release, most people have been staring at their phone, waiting for the next big trailer. The Definitive Edition collection had… a rocky-type launch, at very least-the more patches they put out, the quicker it feels like demand for nostalgia is overshadowed by hunger for future titles.
In response to the climate of players eager for more Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar seemingly maintains the spotlight on GTA Online through weekly updates and GTA+ perks; smart move, considering the obscene amounts of money this game generates. The players are just itching to know about these leaks and the trailers; now they want more. About the only sweetness that does come with the Canis Terminus Patrol is that it’s the perfect vehicle for all chums and glums who love to roleplay as cops or love to wreak havoc in an official-looking ride.
What becomes interesting in how it plays is that Rockstar must look after GTA Online as an ongoing live service. Meanwhile, the sentimental value and GLOBAL massive push toward – GTA VI – is at another all-time high, every single tweet they drop, every update they push through, so little that the company does’ almost met with a tsunami wave of- “ok but what about VI tho” and really, you cannot blame the community. It’s a complete decade-plus since GTA V launched; arguably next in the line for “the most anticipated game… maybe ever?”
So, yes, GTA+ members should go grab that free law enforcement vehicle. It looks tough, and it’s probably a great time driving it around; Free stuff, after all. But in the comment sections, don’t expect to find many thank-yous-we gamers have spoken, and what they want is what they want. Grand Theft Auto VI is what they want. Rockstar knows it, we know it, and everybody else knows it. The big question, then, is… when will Rockstar deliver what the world has been asking for? Only time will tell. For now, people have to settle for law enforcement rides and mobile ports. The long wait continues while the hype train is going full speed ahead.
