Rockstar Games had their usual weekly update for GTA Online and it brought a wide range of reactions from players but mainly positive ones not that much though. The gaming company pointed out that the Lombank West Executive Office is now available free of charge, granting you CEO status and opening up the SecuroServ Special Cargo missions to you. Also, the offer of 3X GTA$ and RP on VIP Work and Challenges will continue until November 19th, additionally, if you finish three of them you will also receive the LS Smoking Jacket and an extra GTA$100,000. Free real estate, extra cash, and a stylish digital jacket sound like a dream, don’t they? What’s the catch?
Based on the comments that largely overran Rockstar’s mentions, there is a lot wrong with it. Although a few players were extremely thrilled about the promo, for example, the user C0lonelX who exclaimed, “Free office? Hell yeah, that’s a no-brainer!” the large majority was… not so excited at all. It was almost enough to say they were really not excited. The situation resembles if Rockstar treated everybody to free pizza but half of the room then started yelling that they wanted steaks instead.
The most prevalent view from the players was that they couldn’t care less about the extra content of GTA Online and just wanted to know when GTA 6 would be released. Many of the users even responded directly with different forms of “We want trailer 3” or “Trailer 3 or bugger off.” User Davey_B8019 was not kidding with his call for the next GTA 6 trailer while SalvaRodriguezX just said “We want trailer 3.” The message was quite obvious – players are getting restless waiting for the next release and the updates for GTA Online are simply not enough to keep them interested anymore.
Some of the unfavourable comments were about very particular things. User Rafael06665240 was among the few who expressed frustration with the content that is offered in GTA Online. They described how boring it could be to have no big robberies and to repeat the same missions over and over. The critics stated the game had nothing more to offer after such a long time. This is the dilemma of an old game in terms of quality; it slowly gets boring notwithstanding the regular updates and the core gameplay loop still feels similar after a while.
Then there was the whole… odd moment of the promotion of the CEO’s content which turned out to be an interesting thing. User Novaemori stated “Seems a little bit too on the nose for your own CEO… just sayin'” which is really a good point considering the disputes that have been surrounding the management of Rockstar. We could also see that SetPixels was being quite sarcastic when he asked “Can we union bust in the game like you did, as CEO?” Ouch. That’s a pretty harsh comment!
The conversation going on in the comments even referred to the teams that developed the game where shadowspacez mentioned “They have different teams, one team is working on the GTA 5 update (bet they are not the ones working on the GTA 6 development) and the entire teams work on GTA 6.” But PaulZurbrugg disagreed by saying that the company could always choose how to allocate and bring in resources and staff to the teams. Instead of continuing to milk the cow that is GTA online, I am suggesting to focus the effort on the long-awaited title that has been delayed multiple times.
On the other hand, some players made more practical requests. The notion of crossplay among different consoles was proposed by several users, the most prominent one being ArdaCel17171438 who stated, “If you bring Cross Play for GTA 5 until GTA6 is released, no one will complain after that.” M3TALGAM3R proposed a pretty nice idea: “Just because we’re waiting doesn’t mean current-gen players shouldn’t get a Liberty City add-on for GTA Online.” Isn’t that a great idea? Returning to Liberty City using the GTA V graphics engine while we wait for Vice City in GTA 6? Someone at Rockstar hire this person.
Ariel Henrique brought up another issue that is often associated with the current state of GTA Online: “Adversary Modes! All we want is to have fun and not grind for money. The game has millions already.” This is definitely another point – for veteran players who have been with the game for a long time and have everything, these cash bonuses and property deals are not going to matter much at all. They are looking for new ways to play the game, not more ways to earn virtual money they don’t need.
And international users also chimed in, like JoDecarvalho51 who wrote in French “On s’en fout on veut gta 6!” meaning “We don’t care, we want GTA 6!” This impatience is clearly a worldwide phenomenon and not just limited to the English-speaking player base.
