There will be a multitude of goodies to keep Rocket League fans occupied throughout the summer, with Psyonix getting ready to launch a brand new batch of challenges and rewards as a follow-up for the Summer Road Trip event series. The teasing account of official Rocket League Twitter stated in a joyful tone, “We hope you’re having a good time on your Summer Road Trip because we’re having a ball ⚽”. This was soon followed by a link for more information that triggered excitement—and some frustration—from the community.

Being live, the event urges players to fulfill challenges within the game for the collection of exclusive rewards with a sporty theme. The rewards have been hinted at but are far from being detailed as far as their contents go; there is a soccer ball emoji in the tweet, however, that may clue in some football (or in American English: soccer) cosmetic items; say goal explosions, decals, or wheeled sets. Given Rocket League’s history of laoding in some fun seasonal drops, the player base has already started debating what exactly can be up for offer.

Others were less than thrilled with the update. As the excitement ensued, complaints began to pour about other games’ issues: more specifically, Fortnite. One user, @Aymansheikh18, chimed in with, “@Fortnite Fix the cup queue times pls 😭😭,” melding complaints about battle royale with current Rocket League news. Others, like the one that goes by @An_Individual59, wrote, “Fortnite tweeting this while the fantastic four cup is buggin,” indicating that one game’s good fortune may curse another.

That aside, plenty of Rocket League players truly showed some enthusiasm for it. “Already got the skin and glider!,” tweeted @DrewKnollman6. “@Fox_Warrior804: YES I have! 😁💖 I like the glider A LOT MORE.” Players shared screenshots showing their newly acquired loot and rejoicing over the new content, barely containing their excitement.

Naturally, with updates come demands. “@MalikHunte92513: Add draft punk to the game” was one. “@BoatKidSol” declared it was time for “#boatkid dance.” Will that happen? Who knows! But shooters gotta shoot.

More plausible were demands for function: @bruh69420694206 said simply, “Mby fix your game?” while @FNeriik23 chimed in, “Instead of uploading tw skins fix the matchmaking bug.” Good points, really, because what a game designed for online play should be is smooth online play.

The Summer Road Trip has only been warmed up for now, there is still enough time to try diving into the rewards in. Whether it is the dope gear or just flexing your air skills, latest Rocket League drop has kept the vibes sky-high this season. Only now, if only those Fortnite queue times would get sorted…

What’s the move? Log in, hit the pitch, and grind these challenges hard. The sporty surprises await, and judging from the replies, it’s well-focused. Maybe keep in the back of your mind those server issues because Jawa kickoffs aren’t really anyone’s favourite.

Also, any of you bigshots who have already grabbed a good chunk of these goodies, feel free to showcase them in the next match. Nothing says legit like a brand new set of wheels and a glider that’s way cooler than it has any right to be. Game on!
