The next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise is Resident Evil Village. Capcom is fresh off its official trailer reveal that was received positively all in all.

The folklore, castle, and werewolf certainly got a lot of survival-horror gaming enthusiasts excited about the future of the franchise.

Capcom has had a lot of success with their latest remakes, but it’s time to continue the series forward after the events that took place in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

There are a lot of elements that stand out right away, but the title is definitely a departure from what their tried and true formula has been. Most notably, there aren’t any numerals. Instead it’s just Village.

So why did the developer make this decision? Was it to go against the grain and switch up tactics for marketing reasons? Thanks to a recent interview from producers on the project Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano, we no longer have to wonder.

Simply put, they wanted to put a greater emphasis on the game’s village setting. In theory, this makes a lot of sense. Rather than getting wrapped up in the fact that this is a direct continuation of Resident Evil 7, fans will view this upcoming installment as a unique experience.

The story will still revolve around Ethan Winters, the main protagonist in the previous installment. He’s had his stressful run-ins with this new fungus mutation, and it seems like his luck isn’t any better in Resident Evil Village.

Taking on his role once again around a creepy village with mysterious monsters lurking about certainly has a lot of appeal already. Based on visuals and cinematic shots, the village seems to be filled to the brim in atmosphere.

That’s always an important part of survival-horror games. Moody settings instantly draw players in and make them want to continue exploring their surroundings. Capcom has doubled down on this aspect it appears.

Everything else revealed about Resident Evil Village is trending in the right direction as well. We know Chris Redfield will be in the game in some capacity and there appears to be some sort of witch. Capcom also seems to be emphasizing folklore and urban legends with the werewolf sightings in the trailer.

The Resident Evil franchise has been on a roll as of late with the recent remakes and this upcoming installment. It seems like the sky is the limit for Capcom as they try to continue re-inviting the franchise in meaningful ways.
